Hi. I know this isn't a Breitling but I was wondering if Roffensian knew about Rolex's too as I have had good advice from him in the past.

Do you think this is genuine? The serial number doesn't seem long enough...

As I said via PM, I have no idea about Rolex.

It seems the serials got scratched off...or even the reflection of the light is not showing the rest of the numbers...everything else looks ok though... doubt the case is fake... he says the dial has been refinished though...

What do you think redone means exactly? Is that an issue? He does say that it is a original dial too so it is quite confusing.

That's what I thought. The serial number doesn't seem right at all.

It looks to authentic to be a rep though. Especially being a vintage. Do they even make vintage replicas?

OK so the seller emailed me and said the last 2 numbers are lost in the light reflection.

He emailed me the full serial number which is: 1005341.

Any thoughts on this?

That would make it made in 1954...... I don't think they made that watch in 1954

Yes that is what I thought too. This should be a 70s watch I believe. Hmmmm

Going by this chart http://www.timeandgems.com/Rolex-Serial ... _b_19.html it would make it 1964 but going by this chart http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/info/full/ ... mbers.aspx it would make it 1954.

I'm not sure which chart is most correct.

1964 could be on par with the model '6694'. I'm researching online to see when this mode was first released.

This is interesting:

When Rolex reached the 999,999 production serial in the early 1950's...they restarted the production serial at 100,000 rather than begin a 7 digit number at 1,000,000. During this period Rolex was also putting the date code on the inside of the case backs...so confusing production serials can sometimes have their production date determined. Look for the Roman number I, II, III or IV for the quarter & two arabic digits for the year.

In the late 1950's, Rolex again reached the 999,999 production serial & they started their 7 digit numeric numbering system at 1,000,000 for production serials, this continued until the 1990's until production serials reached 9,999,999.

I just bought a 6694 and I know I looked at models made in the 60's

It looks 'ok', but you can honestly pick those up for a steal from more trusted sellers without worrying about fake parts and refinished dials.

Yes I think I will pass on this one and wait for another to come up for sale. I do believe it is genuine after doing the date/serial research however the price is a tad more than others that have sold with non-oa, third party straps. I would also prefer to buy from a UK seller for ease of mind.

Most fakes I've seen don't have the serials engraved... at least for me even if it was fake, the engraving looks consistent with everything else I've seen so far...

there are plenty of them out there, so if you're not comfortable just try again... good luck!
