I have been wanting to add a manual wind to the collection. The PAM 112 is a candidate. Only real draw back is the lack of date function. I have also been looking at the Sub C. Does anyone have both? And can offer an opinion?

i have seen the 112 and its a great looking watch. but for me im not a manual wind kind of guy. i like winding my watch up and then having it run auto from wrist movement. i understand that manual wind is part of the panerai history but 40 hours seems so short. the other models with 8 day reserve is pretty impressive. but then they cost serious dollars.

out of these 2 i would go subc. im bias since i own a 116610LN but i think its the better watch.

I don't mind the manual wind, I only wear my nice watches in the evening/weekends so need winding anyway

I had a 112 last year but sold it after a few months, in my opinion a Panerai needs the "seconds @ 9" feature otherwise it just isn't Panerai! Lol

Just my opinion, but a Sub C and a 112 aren't even in the same category. I know you were talking about adding a manual but the 112 isn't the same class of watch (not in house). I would look at a Dornblueth for a manual, handmade watch. If you want the look of a 112 but want a watch in the same ball park as the Sub C, a 312 is in order (but its an auto).

I am a fan of the base model PAM's though, but they really aren't in the same league as a SubC.You think about a Daytona? There's a manual wind, a little bit of a higher price than the other two. I'm also a really big fan of the Omega Speedmaster but really any of them are great watches.

I appreciate the responses. I was not trying to compare the SubC to the PAM 112. In fact, the SubC is hands down in a different league. The SubC for some reason is ranking high on my list of "next watch". I need to sell a couple from the current so I can look at the SubC more closely.

I am definitely discovering a new found interest in having completely different watches. For example: Why have different chronos? Why have two Seawolf's, one TI one SS, both Yellow dials?

I am interested in a manual wind watch, but for some reason the date function is important to me.

I own both. As others have mentioned they are in a different league. Not so much build quality, exclusivity or covetability but because the Rolex has an in-house movement with date function and a ceramic bezel.

The 112 may be 4mm larger in diameter but they both wear comfortably on the wrist. Both are very accurate and robust. I have no quarms in wearing either watch in extreme situations.

I love the flexibility of the 112 with respect to it wearing well with so many different strap options. I like the flexibility of the Sub with respect that it can be worn with the most casual or smart attire.

If you can afford it go for the Sub. The way I feel about it at the minute I will never part with it. I am already considering upgrading the 112.

As an irrelevant aside: When I ask friends and family they always say the 112 is their favourite of all my watches.

Funny thing is that of all the watches ive owned, Rolex elicits such a unique response. With Breitling, I got a lot of "nice watch" and "what kind of watch is that" and "looks expensive" type of comments. Panerai was a lot of "cool looking watch." Rolex gets the "OMG is that a Rolex" "is it real" and "ive never held a real Rolex before" type comments. Its crazy to see what their marketing has done to people.

Both are great watches in their own way, but as noted above they are very different watches. If the decision is which ONE, then my vote is sub-c by a large margin. That being said, the 112 is a fantastic and unique watch, and adds a very different look to your collection. It does not always have to be about the "bells and whistles" on a watch, or the in house movements. I have a 000, and I absolutely love it. It is so simple and the design is so different from most other watches out there that I receive more comments from others about my Panerai watches than everything else combined.

Cause the Los Angeles which *I* live in, as I drive down Sunset Blvd., there's a Lamborghini parked on the street behind a Ferrari, another Lambo, and a few Porsche 911's with a Bugatti tossed into the mix!

Not trying to be a wise ass, I just can't believe anyone in this town hasn't seen a Rolex!

Says it all IMO.
