I know it was just a name change a few years back. I'm looking at a watch with no paperwork at all and want to try and date it. The seller says it's a post evolution chrono because he remembers they changed the name that year. So, that would be around 2008. He said he got a good deal on it, so it made me think maybe it was a evolution they cut him a deal on to make room for the new models.

Is there any detail that changed with the name in 2008 or so? In the reference area here both the current model and Evo end in the same number, so same exact watch ?

This watch is in exceptional shape, SS with blue dial and silver subs, perfect crystal, bezel is 95% and lume is bright. Probably, 90% condition overall and I'll wear this plenty so it doesn't need to be a safe queen. It's one reason why I really don't care about the ppw.

It has a serial number on the back under the etch model number, would that help. He's a friend of mine, needs the cash and I've been wearing it since Friday night when he told me to take it for a few days and see if I like it. He wants $3,000, sweet if you ask me. Oh, never been serviced but it's with 10 seconds since I set it Friday afternoon, fast.

The instructions Roff directed you to will help you date it conclusively. As for your other questions, the watch stayed the same when it changed from the Chronomat Evolution back to the Evolution, so no differences there. Later Pilot bracelets have a raised logo on the clasp, rather than stamped, although I'm not sure when that change took place - around '07 or '08 I think.

Be aware that the Evolution was one of the most commonly faked Breitlings, and there are some very high quality fakes out there. If you trust your friend, and he swears he got it from an authorized dealer, it's probably OK. But an Evo without paperwork is something to be wary of, generally speaking.

Oh, no it's real. I was with him when he bought it in Vegas during a winning streak. I think he tried to pawn it like 48 hours later, lol...

It was March of 2008 during March Madness. With Roff's help I found the band mark and the band was stamped 4207, 42nd week of 2007. I guess it's an Evo, doesn't really matter, I buying it today.

On a side note you all may laugh at....i was with the same guy in the early 2000's in Vegas. We got there, started playing craps and 2 hours of a scortching hot rolls later my buddy is up $9,000 with a $1,000 buy-in. It's 6 PM by this time. I tell him I'm going to take nap, shower up and be ready to hit the town around 9 PM. I'm awaken at about 8 PM to him enterting the room and declaring I needed to buy dinner since he was broke !! The next day he's playing the horses from Hollywood Park and hits the pick 6 for $8,800.

Happy Monday Everyone !!

Tomato, tomahto. Watches that were being sold as Chronomat Evolutions in 2007 were being sold as Chronomats in 2008. The change was in name only, so even the ones produced before the change got the new moniker. Your friend's watch could have been sold as either one, or possibly both. Around here, we tend to refer to all of them as Evolutions (or Evos), regardless of when they were made, because people will know what we're talking about.

Maybe in addition to buying your friend's watch to help him get some money, you can also help him find some counseling. It sounds like he may have a bit of a gambling problem.
