It's all down to personal taste.

There's not a single Panerai I'd give £5 for! Fugly IMHO!

Rolex is the brand which people who know nothing about watches think/assume are the best watches in the world so are overpriced and somewhat over-rated. That said, I like a lot of Rolex models.

If you like the SA, get one and don't bother what anyone else thinks!

I'm sorry that was rather rude of me. I wanted to read your post and found that I could not.
Well done on passing the exam by the by.

Personally I find the SA to be way to big, but there are some people with gorilla arms that it fits perfectly (FEAR). I have 7 1/2" wrists and when I tried on a SA it looked ridiculous. If I were you and there were several watches that I wanted I'd go with something a little more classic first, maybe the SubC or ExpII, I can't wait to see that one by the way.

This way you'll have a great watch that you want anyway and then get something like the SA or PAM. Then if you decide that you really like the bigger SA or PAM you can sell the EXPII and not lose any money, as opposed to selling the SA and losing about $1k.

Agree 100% with this, what you purchase should be down to your own personal taste and not what seems popular... at the end of the day you should be purchasing a watch which you enjoy.

I found I spent a long time getting my first watch and wanted it to be perfect. I did love it - an Omega - I found it "spoke to me.". At that time, I couldn't find a Breitling I liked. After a month or so I wearing it I bought a Seawolf ti and really liked the look and feel of the Breitling cases. Now I have a fee more watches I want - several of which I never would have wanted 6 months ago. My pint is that you should I with what you think you'll enjoy most - don't worry about anything else. And then see if you stick with it, or if something else speaks to you. Or maybe like some others, you'll end up loving all of them and amass a huge collection.

Breitling have stunning wrist presence, they're made using a monumental amount or material compared to some luxury brands and they're pretty bombproof. The model variation leaves almost everyone catered for.

My Rolex GMT 116710 is a great daily wearer, it's simple, does the job required of it and will maintain decent residuals for years to come.
My Chronomat Evolution has great 'bling' factor and makes for a great dress watch despite its size, I bought it preowned and so don't expect to take a huge hit on it should I ever come to sell it.

Breitling are still making classics, ones we all hope will not be redesigned or fiddled with to any great degree.

I feel the only danger with the Breitling brand 'as is', pertains to their apparent efforts to attract a new audience by way of redesigning their classics, (B01 etc), to include some very, very major cosmetic changes that have a somewhat Marmite effect, you either love it, or hate it, leaving some owners wanting to take a trip down Breitling 'memory lane' rather than stump up the high retail prices for the new 'improved models'.

I'd have paid top dollar for a C-Evolution with the newer 'in house' movement, but the wild departure in styling left me thinking that whilst the inside was original and a design success, the new exterior was an attempt to reach out to a new audience, as the current fan base probably surely wouldn't be too keen.

The used market might well stabilise fairly nicely for used Evolutions and perhaps even colt chrono's, as Breitling's styling revolution makes the oldies harder to come by.

If you are anything like me, your tastes will change, daily, monthly etc. Just because some trend is pushing in one direction or another doesnt mean it is right for you, else we would all be wearing bellbottoms. Find the one you like, go to a dealer and try it on, make sure. Then buy what you like. I happen to like my navi very much, even though for a few weeks I thought about selling it. You see, i liked the heavier weight, more durable looking models, and wanted a blackbird, or something similiar like a b1. I even considered a rolex, but found them to be too run of the mill for me. I remember when I was younger, all of the folks gaining new money wanted a rolex. They still look the same to me, which some call classic styling, others old fashioned. In the end, I got exactly what I LIKED, and that is what really matters.

SA it's always been just a powerful model in USA/Canada, in EUrope the king and the powerfrul and best seeling of Breitling it's always been the Chronomat and then Chronomat Evolution. that's is.

i never liked the SA btw.

In Canada, there is a 3-6 month wait for SA's. You are lucky to get a brand new one. I had to order both of my watches directly from Switzerland, and they take their sweet ass time. Very well worth the wait mind you.

Well, I've owned all three brands, and currently own both Breitling and Panerai.

They complement each other well in my mind....my Breitlings are complicated (chronos, moonphase, big date) vs my hand wind PAM, which is very simple. I work in financial services, and I rarely see either brand at work. But I like what I own, and that's all I care about! Both can work with cuffs and a suit, but I must say that I just saw a SA in the wild at an event i attended, and it was huge! The guy who was wearing it was huge as well, but even he couldn't fit that under his cuff.

My advice - buy what you like.....
