Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, I've had Breitlings since 1992 so I thought it was about time that I joined a forum like this one.

For my first post I thought I'd share a story with you which will be of interest to Emergency owners.

As we all no doubt know, the two pilots on board the Orbiter 3, Bertrand Piccard and Brain Jones, wore Emergencies during their sucessful flights. When they completed their epic journey, I fancied one of the watches, amazed to be honest a member of the public can buy these instruments. I wrote to Breitling, stating I wanted to buy one, but I said it was likely that you would bring out a special edition, so if you could just let me know when this would be made that would be nice. Now for the interesting bit...

Their reply stated there was no plans for a special edition. So, I put down a deposit for a 'standard' Emergency, it was one with the same coloured dials as used by one of the pilots. When I got the new catalogue, you can probably imagine my suprise when I saw a special edition Orbiter 3 Emergency, the watch I asked for, that they were not going to make!!!

So, as you can imagine, my deposit was changed, and after paying in full I became a proud owner of no. 1144. This is one awesome piece of kit, really special as of course the watch comes with a piece of the actual baloon so I own a real piece of aeronautical history.

How cool is that?! I've often wondered if my letter gave them the idea...

Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome messages.

Unfortunately no pics; I don't have a digital camera, I'm a bit old fashioned (like an automatic movement in the quartz era I suppose!). It actually isn't my first Breitling; that would be a Jupiter Pilot in 1992 during my student days. Can't believe it is nearly 20 years old, worn pretty much all the time, considering it was one of the 'cheaper' Breitlings at the time, it has aged really well.

I also have a rather beautiful Chronomat GT in steel/gold with a matching pilot bracelet and mother of pearl dial, if fact wearing it right now!

And as well, a special edition Seiko watch, I'm into cycling, it came with a special edition gear system, to celebrate 25 years of Shimano Dura Ace. Strangely enough the Breitlings are always worn, yet the Seiko I have never worn.

That's funny because I never wear my Breitlings when I'm gigging but 9 times out of 10 wear my Seiko Monster for the lume in the dark on stage and the fact it can get bashed about without worrying about it.

Sort of - the model is the same, but that one is in 18K gold; mine is the titanium version as that was the one that was used on the voyage. Gold is nice of course but for this model it seems a bit wrong somehow.

No mobile either? Most of them have an embedded camera.
