In defence of the Rolie-boys, their massively polarised opinions on the engraving isn't all that dissimilar to our opinions on the varying fonts seen on the Chronomat 01 dial, or indeed the "Buck bezel" itself. OK so the Rolex engraving is (to us at least) a much smaller issue, but you have to remember that Rolex's designs evolve with all the speed of tectonic plate movement. If a geologist was to take a core sample from some Jurassic rock, the fossilised Submariner they'd no doubt find in it would look almost exactly like a 16110! As a result, even tiny changes can really irritate the die-hard Rolie fanatic.

They should just be glad they aren't specifically fans of Breitling : the constant change (a little DLC here, a red rubber bezel there, a Tag-style bezel on that one, etc) would cause a few of their heads to explode!

Ulitmately, all us WIS guys aren't really that different.

Yeah, the Rolex guys are a bit strange. I think most of them are just pissed that the new models make the old ones seem like junk.

I won't comment on whether they're strange or not. But I was surprised in going to The Rolex Forums that there is an informal band that call themselves the Retro-Grouch Curmudgeons, who lament the demise of lug holes, acrylic crystals and tin-foil bracelets on Rolexes. I guess it's telling that I didn't really start to like the brand until those very things were done away with. (Like Boogiebot, I see the changes ushered in with the Sub-C as genuine improvements to the model.)

Oh, and I actually like the rehaut engraving.

I like the etching, plus how can really see it. Thr crown on the other hand is like an urban legend; I mean, I know it's there but rty seeing or getting it in a photo. On some other sites the guys get really seriuos about watch photo's and there are some incredible shots of the lazered crown, hands and watch faces. Just incredible stuff.
