Really good point and one that tends to prove Breitling is just designing a watch without any regard to it's intended function and purpose. The "Instrument for Professionals" folks aren't placing features on a watch that function requires. Just willy-nilly sh#t.

Boy, they keep reducing the odds of me ever selling the ones I have - with each crazy new release, I appreciate my Lings even more. By the time of next year's releases I will be organizing a parade for my Lings.

The new Colt has a more traditional diver type bezel. 1 munite indicies from 15 minutes, lume at 12 o'clock, sturdy material. But not the Super Ocean that's meant to be a diver has none of those? I just don't get it Breitling! The Colt was fine the way it was......mostly. I prefer the older models. I agree with many on this forum, the bracelet is absolutly terrible. Transition to the case is sloppy. Why do companies feel they need to change everything all the time? Does timeless mean anything anymore?

Sorry, guys, but I suppose someone has to like it. Actually, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. I kind of like the look of the bracelet, with the new end link design as well. I really like the bezel on it as well. I wish they had done the same sort of thing with the SuperOcean.
Having said all this, I just took a look at the "Crown Guards", if you could call them that. They really don't give the crown any protection, just a very subtle protrusion from the side of the case. Very odd indeed. Why bother with a crown guard at all?
Just way too big. I would have thought that the 42mm size would have been big enough. Looks like the entire thing, including the bracelet, is brushed, which I do like.
Definitely, however, not a watch that will going on my shopping list.
I feel like most of you: I don't really know what Bretling are trying to do, and I wonder if they do themselves. Last time, at my AD, just a display case full of unappealing watches. Many of them very overpriced. Would like to know the MSRP on the new Colt.
Cheers,
Carl

Good grief and they took the 41mm Colt Auto and made it 44mm because, as should be obvious, Breitling is over-whelmed with reasonably sized 40-41mm 3 hands and virtually devoid of 44-45mm 3 hands.

The Colt was a very nice smaller crossover watch at a reasonable price. Now it's just another 44mm. WTF!

It's clear from the reaction and comments here that the Breitling design team (or is it just one slightly crazed man in a small darkened room?) have not done any market research.

With the wealth of knowledge and critical acclaim this site boasts would it take much to invite a few carefully selected bloggers to comment on the pre production design?

By the way I wear a Colt Chrono Auto and would not change it for one of these................. ever!

Driver8 had an interesting theory regarding the Breitling "design team" responsible; it was Hank, the one-eyed North Sea cod:

And don't forget as part of their drive for all in house mechanical movements they put a quartz in it.

Yuck. Those bezels are possibly the ugliest thing I've ever seen on a breitling.

What's with the 'quartered' dial? The bezel trully is awful.

44mm is a nice size though and by only showing the 12, 6 and 9 it give it a bit of an SO44 look, which is good.

With a bit more thought, it could have been a looker.

With a few less boxing gloves to the face I could have been a contender.

These are the worst looking Breitling's since the early 80's World model. They look like something you would see in Argos/ H Samuel for about £50.
:guns: :guns: Time for a few sackings at the R & D department
