Ok, fun one for the forum:

I was checking out a Chrono Cockpit with a bronze dial a while back. It looked good to me, but I saw its limitations as far as flexibility was concerned. Tourneau in NYC had it for about $4k and wouldn't let me take it off their hands for $3k, which is all it was worth to me. (I ended up getting a used Cockpit.) Well, my wife knew about this and yesterday, at our (4th) anniversary, she surprised me with a Chronomat 41 with brown dial. She paid full price at the Breitling Boutique. It's a nice watch, but I'm not a fan of the Galactic bezel (or the price tag).

So here goes:

I KNOW she can't afford it so there goes debt on her credit card. I was planning on saying I appreciate it, explain the above, go back to the BB with her and either go with something less expensive I've looked at before (like a CSO) or just return it outright.

So?

Do you think I'm making the right move here?

Hmmm... dangerous territory here :| . Maybe you learn to love that Galactic bezel ??

Is it really that bad? Seems like a nice piece if it fits your style.

If you seriously don't like the watch, you probably won't wear it, so if it can be returned for something else with your wife's blessing that would be ideal. But we don't always live in an ideal world  .

Good luck and let us know the outcome!

My wife wouldn't want me to have a watch that I didn't want so in my case it would be a no brainer. Personally I would also want to take it back and get a watch from an AD that would discount and my wife would agree.

That said, my wife isn't your wife

And there you go. The wife is the spoiler here. Absent her, and it's a no-brainer: take it back. There's no sense keeping a watch you don't like, especially when it went for full retail. But what's going to be more painful - the debt and wearing a watch you don't fully like, or her reaction to you wanting to return it? You know her better than we do.

This could end up as a first ever Breitling Jerry Springer Episode. :)

I will risk no advice here.

hey bud welcome to bsource. sounds like you got yourself one heck of a wife. you know she must love you a ton to over extend herself like that. ok onto your situation....personally if youre not loving the watch its got to go! it sounds like you dont want your wife to have to bare the burden of the debt so easy choice. return the watch, tell her "hey baby that is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me" take her to dinner.....and the rest is brownie points for you.

If you don't like it, take it back. I don't know what their return policy is, but I wouldn't wait long and just get it over.
