OK, but can't you just buy a clear caseback?

You cam put a Rolls grill on a VW Bug but it looks silly.

Where do you source it? Remember you have to take not only size but threading and depth into account.

And accept that the watch can never go back to Breitling.

As anyone who collects vintage pieces will tell you, finding replacement casebacks is almost impossible because they just don't fit well.

There was a German guy who used to customise existing Breitling casebacks with a sapphire insert but he doesn't do it any more. Don't think that too many people did it because Breitling won't touch the watch afterwards.

In regards to rolex. Just something else rolex can "do" to try and convince us it's worth a Ton of money... I want a deep sea, sort of. But I can't justify the price of two super avengers because it's a "rolex".....

You've just stated the former position of nearly every Rolex owning member on this site, including me.

 Now this is funny.

[quote="Roffensian"] The only exception, somewhat bizarrely, being a mecha-quartz movement.[quote]

Oh yeah I remember that... I mentioned that found a CR Ratty NIB awhile back at a dealer and that indeed was bizarre... and to be honest, not much to look at either...

I've always wondered this as well.
When I first got into Breitlings I was a little disappointed that their watches didn't have display backs.
As sad as it may be, I like to look at the inside of the watch while it's beating and admire the craftsmenship gone into it.

I'm currently looking into getting a Chronomat GMT... now I can understand them not wanting to have display backs on watches with undecorated, standard eta movements like my Super Avenger. But I find it strange that they didn't use an exhibition case for the GMT to show off that Calibre 04.
