I think a 40th commemorative piece should be from a "timeless" company... sure we're all familiar you're particular to niche and boutique brands too but I think your special watch should be from a established company with a history of long tradition... JLC, Vacheron, maybe Patek? or even Breguet...

come to think of it, I don't think anyone has mentioned Breguet so far...

if money is no object, i might purchase a Rolex Daytona Paul Newman.
Though i belive Zenith made their movements then... so its not in house.

Since it doesn't have to be in house, do what you've threatened to do before and create your own watch brand.

Owning #001 of your own watch would be good to look back on as a 40th present to yourself!

Failing that, you can be assured you're not going to meet anyone else on your travels wearing the infamous "Gaytona"

Yessss........

Roff Watch is still in the works, just more slowly than I planned due largely to the small problem of having to run a real business.

I actually came close to investigating a piece last week but it sold before I had the chance. I have a big contract negotiation to do for the business in the weeks after my birthday so if that goes well it may change things so may delay slightly in the hope of increasing options.

The de Bethune wouldn't be my choice from that brand, and I'm not sure on pricing, and I'm kind of with jlee5050 about it being 'classic', I just can't get away from this desire for a 'unique classic' if that makes any sense.

at $2.57 mil?

I thought they were $1.3 mil? I don't know Roff's financial situation, for all I know, he could be receiving royalties every time a dog barks (roff roff) :D

Roff, how about the Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921? Unique and classic rolled into one watch.

That won't hurt your neck trying to tell time?

Saw one in NYC. I just stared like a fool at how smoothly the seconds subdial went round and round. Awesome and memorable. I do need to see that Cartier, though.

Yeah I like that watch. I had a chance to buy a Crazy Hours earlier this year, but much prefer the Secret Hours - it's a cool complication.
