I've owned both sapphire and hesalite Speedies, and the hesalite just looks better. Look at the pic I posted - the sapphire crystal doesn't have the same shape and sheen, and I didn't find myself staring at it as much as the hesalite.
I stopped by my Omega AD yesterday and was able to compare the hesalite to the sapphire. Now I see what you're talking about. I'm not saying I don't like the sapphire, but the hesalite does have a certain "something" that makes it unique and appealing.
They had the Apollo-Soyuz LE, with the meteor dial, and in my limited experience, I think that's the best looking Speedy I've seen. I'm sure purists would turn up their noses, but it was really striking in person: awesome looking and unique dial, rhodium-finished hands, applied rhodium-finished indexes, red "Speedmaster" and red tip to the seconds hand - just gorgeous. Oddly, though, it still had the pin bracelet. Another Speedy they had in stock came with the screw bracelet, and it is a bit nicer.
