How old is this Chronomat?

It's kind of a lopsided trade in favor of you..

I am taking him my Carrera this evening and let him play with it this weekend. I am a little concerned about the trade being favorable to me but money is not an issue with this guy. He can (and does) buy pretty much whatever he wants. I think he just wants a change (plus the fun involved in swapping straps/ bracelets, etc. - he does that a lot).

Regarding how old the Chonomat is; it's at least 10 years old. I will ask this evening and find out exactly.

I spoke to my friend today and Breitling sent the watch back unfixed. He definately wants to proceed with the trade (my Carrera for his broken Chronomat). With that said, he has to pick it up from the AD and get it to me. I told him I wanted to check it out over a weekend and make a decision. I will photograph it and post pics soon. I should have the watch in my hands by Monday. Sorry for the delays...Breitling just returned it a few days ago.

Ok, finally got the Breitling. It's a B-2 rather than a Chronomat. Bought in 2002 with box and papers. I will post pics in an hour or so. I am very unfamiliar with this watch so opinions are very welcome. Its beautiful and runs very well (the original owner says it stops running after several days though). Pics coming soon. Is a B-2 a watch that sells well? I am getting this watch at a very good deal even if I need to service it.

Did I? That's exactly what I need to know. Is the B-2 a good watch that sells well when/ if I decide to sell it? This is the same watch I initially started this thread about. I thought it was a Chronomat but it's a B-2 instead. I personally don't like the looks but it's hard to turn down this deal. I am sending you a PM FEAR.

Don't see enough B-2s around here in my opinion, I think that it's a great looking piece. The dial is a little busy for some people, but I really like it. Might it be that it's stopping after a few days simply because the seller wasn't wearing it / winding it? That said, it's going to be at least 5 years old so service is close to due.

This watch was serviced 27 months ago. He just got it back from Breitling with a $500 estimate. Initially we were going to trade - my Tag Carrera for this. He decided to just sell it to me today though. I am going to wear it and see how it's running. It kind of looks like a smaller Navitimer to me. It has been running well so far.

Totally agree. I also prefer that version you have to the later B-2 which had a much more dive watch look to the dial IMO. I personally think the B-2 is a much more interesting piece that the Chronomat anyway.

I am really enjoying wearing this watch. The chronograph is very unique with the 10 minute and 3 hour dials. The slide rule is beyond me though...really complicated lol. I never did very well with math and reading the manual didnt help lol.

The bracelet has some stretch and needs polishing but otherwise the watch is pretty nice.

What is the smooth little round thingy on the case side at the 10 o'clock area? Looks like a helium valve but I assume its not. I think you can see it in the picture.

It's the housing for the gearing mechanism of the bezel. It works on a rack and pinion type of arrangement as opposed to the much simpler friction fit of the Navi bezel. It affords a slightly better level of WR.

I have to admit I am loving this B-2. It has quickly become one of my favorite wearing watches. The bracelet is very comfortable and the weight is perfect. The taper on the bracelet fits my wrist perfectly.

I am also having tons of fun with the slide-rule bezel and the chronograph function. The 10-minute counter is wonderful for cooking/ grilling!
So far the watch is running terrific...I have not found where it stops running as the previous owner indicated.

One thing I have not checked is the power reserve. I tend to wind it a little everyday as I do all my watches and I also keep it on a winder when I am not wearing it.
In the near future I am going to send it in for a new crystal and a service/ light polish. The crystal has small scratching on the AR coating.

One quick question: the crown is not marked with a "B"...Is that normal? The bezel does have the small "B" at the 11:00 marker though.

Anyway, thanks for all your opinions!
