Had a chat with the folks at the Toronto service centre today when I took my Zenith in to be sent on another 3 month trip for repairs. Asked about the issues with the caliber 01 chronograph that so many people have reported here. I was told that they weren't seeing as many issues with that as with the date, quote "the date change mechanism has issues".

I don't recall anyone here with a 01 reporting problems with the date but thought that was interesting. Didn't have time to get into details, but the 01 has the instant date change that is supposed to help alleviate some of these problems although an instant date change does require a lot more energy to be transmitted than the more normal gradual date change in most ETA based calibers.

I haven't noticed any problems..........yet, with the Navi 01 I have. I do remember being startled at how loud the date change was the first time it changed over at midnight. I don't notice it now.

I have had the transocean B01 for 2 months......no issues at all, solid movement. Keeps exact time with my Rolex and PO Omega both COSC certified as well. Date change is instantaneous and quiet on my TO.

By loud I mean I could hear it whereas on my Cockpit the change is intantaneous and never heard it.

I´ve had mine for about 3 weeks only, but all functions perfectly. Might be an interesting subject for a poll to see which percentage of the Cal 01 had issues.

Then my AD, who happens to be a watchmaker, advised me correctly to be aware of the danger zone on my B01 in spite of what Breitling says on the instant date change.

Tom, I agree with you that the date change is loud on my B01, at least much louder than on my Steelfish but like you, I do not notice it anymore.

Roff, that's interesting that the service center has seen issues with the date change, as no one has reported anything here. Although one is supposed to be able to change the date freely at any time, I still try not to inside the 8pm-2am window. I have a couple times on my Chronomat 01, but I can't imagine it has anything to do with my chronograph issues. Also, my issue popped up after only a few months.

I highly doubt that the 'window' has anything to do with it, the way that the date change is implemented in an instant date change is completely different. I suspect that the issues are related to damage to parts caused by the relatively high amount of torque that has to be transmitted in an instant date change.

Chronograph issues should be totally unrelated.

I'd be very reluctant to buy another model with a B01 movement after my experience with my Navitimer Caliber 01.

I'm still annoyed that my perfect Breitling turned out to be the experience from hell, if I didn't have that experience the Caliber 01 would be on my wrist now.
