Hello my first first (hopefully of many) on BS! I currently own a Steelfish but anyway..

I fancy buying myself a vintage watch soon for the Goodwood Revival and found this chrono for sale. I asked over on TZ where I am a member for advice and one of the members thinks the watch is fake/wrong. I would be grateful if anyone else can take a look and advise please, my knowledge of vintage watches isn't high.

The info reads ''Valjoux 7733-17 Jewel movement and everything bar the strap was original, meaning the watch had not had it's face or hands re-touched at all. There are no major scratches visible on the glass or any other part of the watch as far as I can see and I hope you can see this also from the pics I have posted. Case size is 40mm exc. crown and 44mm inc. crown, strap lug size is 19mm.

On the dial it reads; 'B' Breitling. 17 Jewels - Incabloc - Antimagnetic - Automatic. The back cover reads; All Stainless Steel - Water Resistant - Antimagnetic - Swiss Made - 93001 15''

Odd.

93001 is a little known, but correct Breitling reference number, and that's the correct case and dial look and feel, but......

The ones that I have seen have always been three register 7736 powered beasts, don't recall ever seeing a two register. That said, it doesn't look bad. The central hands look right, although the condition of those relative to the dial is concerning, and the subdial hands don't look right (although they fit style wise). If the dial is a redial, which the condition relative to the hands would be the natural suspicion it's a darn good one. If I could find some reference two register 93001s I would call this real.

That's the first thing that popped into my head too Roff... wanted to call it wrong but wasn't 100% on this one...

Thanks for your replies, I guess the jury is out then. Probably genuine, but probably a frankenwatch by the sound of it. Maybe I'll pass on this one

I am a member on the other well known forums as well, but I'm the most active on this one... the other ones I just use to browse the sales sections... you will find over time that you won't find another finer group of gentlemen here that are very knowledgeable and passionate about vintage Breitlings anywhere else... you are more than welcome to post anything else that catches your fancy in the future and we'll all help you out. I personally don't believe that it's a frankenwatch - there's too much 'right' about it, I just can't 'prove' it with reference pieces. The price that the seller was asking was maybe a little high, but not unreasonable and if there is room to negotiate then you may get a good deal. Before committing I would want to confirm the movement, the lack of pictures of that is concerning because anything could be in there.

Roffensian - Thanks, you're probably right then - I guess there probably were lots of different versions back then. I'll try messaging the seller about the movement but thus far he hasn't replied to any of my questions!

I have seen all of those parts before and none of them are Breitling - its a FAKE. Best to look elsewhere.
