 What the hell is going on in Breitling's design team these days??? Who signs these things off???

Obviously I'm assuming it IS just one design team of course. The way there's no longer any coherent design cue or theme across the range, I actually think they're outsourcing design duties to at least 50 different assorted creatures, who aren't in the same office.......... or speak the same language....... or have ever seen a watch in their lives..... and who probably aren't even the same species.

This particular one appears to have been designed by a 3 month old chimp from his tree house in Peru, after having recently seen a 1980's Tag. The design was then apparently initially approved by a yak herder sitting in a tent in Mongolia, before finally being signed off for production by a one-eyed North Sea cod named Hank, who was found wintering in a fjord in Sweden. It would explain a lot.

The really scary thing is that the world seems to be full of chimps, cods and yak herders who all love these trans-species designs. I´m afraid we will hear from ADs that abomination is selling like hot cakes, especially in Asia ....

P.S.: I doubt the yak herder approved the design on his own, he let the yak decide.

Surely that is a nineties TAG ?

Al, exactly my first reaction.
Would have sworn this is a rebranded frankenTAG and a prime candidate for our replica section.
:supereek:

Mine too from the other thread before we got a close up of the dial. The bezel still screams Tag. I cannot even comment on what the dial screams.

I think one of our members will have to change his tag line from "No it's NOT a damn Invicta." Not so sure Breitling gets to claim pecking-order status any longer. That is one of he ugliest watches I have ever seen.

I'm taking the SOH42 off the "to buy list" in protest. Breitling no mas. Period.

I own Breitlings. I am a former Breitling customer. :guns: :guns:

Well, I'm glad there are no over-reactions about this watch....

I'm not a huge fan of the design, but I don't think its the worst thing I've ever seen.

I don't think folks are comparing this to the entire population of fugly watches, rather to breitlings and our expectations of Breitling design. Were this watch standing alone, the reaction would be negative, but in light of the other blunders, they have reached an inexplicable low in my book. It's like being witness to a 100 car pile up on a foggy freeway. Just when you think you've seen it all, some other poor sap slams into the pack at 70mph.

As John said it best, "Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse..."

I get it, and I agree with the general consensus. I just meant that there are worse watches especially some of the newer Breitlings.

HUGE (and overwhelmingly negative) over-reaction is all part of the fun with new Breitling releases these days!

It's not all negative though. I love the new Transocean Chrono B01, I love the new Navi B01 and I like the Chronomat B01 LE and the Flying Fish a lot too. Oh and I really like new Navi 1461 as well. See? Not all bad. (It's just the other 40 I don't like at all! :poke: )

Shame, because a few years ago there was hardly anything in the Chronolog that I didn't like - now it's the other way round.

I do wonder, as someone mentioned, how much of this is in response to the large and ever-growing Asian market. As China's middle class continues to increase (while ours shrinks!), I think we will have to prepare ourselves for products that are no longer geared directly towards us.

The new Colt looks like a cheap watch.

It seems the only way to go for the next, what, 20 years?

And who knows, by then, Breitling will be Chinese-owned and selling only in Asia. Because who in his right mind would want to buy stuff like that in the original Breitling markets?

And the Breitling Team would fly Hongdu JL-8s...

That's really the point here. It isn't that the 'NEW' Colt is a joke (which is clearly is), but more that the entire line used to be desirable. Now there are only a few offerings that I look at and say "That's Breitling". The remainder of their line up seems like a really bad dream. I used to flip through the Chronolog and count all the watches that I wanted to buy. Now I don't even want a Chronolog from my AD.

The other issue I'm having, is the disgusting thought of them putting this bezel on the Avenger line.

It makes me shutter......

All the best,

Steve

Exactly! When I do break down and pick up a new watch, there is ZERO chance it will be a Breitling. With the Navi 01 already in hand, there just isn't another model for me. Candidly, it saddens me somewhat. I'm wearing the black dial Fish on the bracelet today and still I enjoy taking a moment here and there to look at it and appreciate it - especially the value.

I ventured in to other brands - JLC, IWC, Panerai, Zenith - and while there is no denying they all are both aesthetically and technically appealing, they just never did it for me. I get more of a kick out of wearing a $3K Fish or $4.5K Cockpit than the watches I've owned costing 3-4 times as much.

All the more incentive to stick with what I have.
