Gentlemen. (I hope that I have posted this on the correct forum?).

I recently bought a very nice Crosswind from a local (Belfast, N.I.) Authorised Dealer. I'm now in the market for a Navitimer. I came across a very nice Montbrillant Datora on ebay at what seems to be a very good price. I am quite scared of paying good money to someone who I have never met, for something which I have never seen 'in the flesh' - in a nutshell, I'd like to buy this watch but I am very very wary of doing an on-line transaction.
See the link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT.
Any advice would be very welcome.
Thank you

Not sure exactly what you are asking.

If you aren't comfortable buying online then look for local deals or work with an AD. This piece is with a seller with good feedback and you have buyer protection through PayPalo do minimal risk.

Sometimes you can run into wrinkles buying and selling used, but the savings more than make up for the hassles and risks my opinion.

Having said that, I'm on the market for the same watch, and I won't be bidding on this one because it's over-priced.

Hi,

Sorry I am not at home or I could have checked it out for you.

I can see what you are worried about, spending cash without seeing the watch, and trusting the seller, they have a lot of sales but its mainly low priced stuff.

I would say its over priced by a at least three hundred quid, but it looks correct and in good order, the AD is correct Sizers in the sellers town Scarborough, in order to get to know the seller, I would ask a question via ebay and ask for more photos, ask for a clearer dial shot, and the full sized advert photos, get a conversation going, see if they will talk on the phone etc.

No one is bidding at present, if you are known to them and you contact them after the sale and make an offer who knows, also if you are able too, drive over and see it yourself, if you are happy then buy it if not you walk away, you have lost your travel costs, but gained an ice cream and some fish and chips.

Good luck,

Ian

Thanks Ian.

I have been in contact with the seller via email and offered him a price which is a couple of hundred less than his 'starting price'.
I'll take a chance - and if there are no offers then perhaps he might reconsider my offer?
As for driving over - not a chance.
As for your other comment - surprisingly enough, I was at a seaside resort on Sunday past where I hadnt been for a number of years - and guess what? - I had an ice cream and fish & chips.

So what happened? The auction is over, was he flexible with the price? Did you end up getting the watch?

Hello Alex

Seems like someone has secured it with his 'starting bid' - wasn't me.
