Hey guys!

I got a Navitimer World from my wife, which I am pretty certain is legit, though there are a couple of things that are giving me pause. Let me describe the situation:

The watch arrived in a Faux leather travel box, contained in a bakelite box, itself contained in a cardboard box. In the cardboard box was another box containing, as far as I can see, all the documentation available. The watch was purchased at an Authorized Reseller.

So, what is giving me pause?

Well, I have been led to believe that one of the "easy" ways to spot a fake, is by the movement of the second hand, which should be gliding smoothly. Mine has a certain "ticking" feel to it, though it certainly moves much more smoothly than any other watch I've owned. The second hand of the cronograph is kinda jerky, though I don't know if that's normal or not.

I have compared the details of the watch to the legit/fake images on this site, and they all check out.

Thoughts?

One more thing, which also has given me pause; when I sweat, the bracelet tends to discolor my skin, though it washes off fairly easily afterwards.

Difficult to comment without pics.

The usual give-away with the Navi World is a sunken date wheel. If this looks OK, it's real.

I can certainly understand that. Here are a few shots I snapped with the camera on my cellphone:

Looks ok to me. Unlike the fakes of this model, the date font looks correct and is flush to the window.

Yes it is normal for the sec hand to look a little bit jerky. That story about the smooth movement the sec hand is myth. Even some high quality watches have quartz movements that jump in 1 sec steps and even on mechanical watches the sec hand is not completely smooth as it jumps in very small steps.

It does jump in very small steps, so that has gone a long way toward assuaging my worries. Thanks!

By the by, does the watch qualify me for membership in the FulL Ling club?

That certainly was helpful, each of the four errors below check out on mine, so I think it's fairly safe to say that it's a real one!

Quote:
1) the pain on the arrow hand is painted too high up
2) the breitling sign on the second hand is done poorly, not as detail as the real
3) the luminate material on the dial is shinny and matallic, the real one is done with more expensive material that will dry up and not shinny
4) correct me if i'm wrong: all my breitling when put under light, it's reflecting purple and blue light because they are coated in both side of the crystal. In the fake, it doesn't.

It's real, you can clearly see that the date wheel is not sunken.

Rather than start a new thread, figured I would ask here - I have the same watch (except white), is the second hand (the one when you use the chronograph) supposed to kind of tick? Meaning, it's not as smooth as the second hand in the little circle (yeah I know, very technical LOL). Thanks

Roff can correct me, but I think the chrono second hand "ticks" 6 times each second, it depends on the beat of the movement, I think the world has a 21,600 beat movement which means both the running seconds hand (the small one) and the chrono seconds hand will "tick" 21,600 times every hour, it's smooth but not perfectly smooth. The running seconds hand probably just looks smoother because it's shorter.

I hope I got that at least mostly right. ;)

Well let's post the right answer without addressing the last sentence :poke:

The movement in the World (and all current Breitlings) is a 4 Hz movement which beats at 28,800 beats per hour. The mathematically inclined will figure out that's 8 beats per second, but it's still only 4 Hz because two beats make up a cycle (if you think of a wave trace you need the bit above the line and the bit below the line).

That means that the seconds hand moves at 4 beats per second unless there is some funky gearing which there isn't in the World. The way that the chronograph movement is powered means that it is physically impossible for the chrono seconds and running seconds to tick at a different rate and as stated it just appears to be more jumpy because the tip of the chrono seconds is further from the arbor (point of rotation).

Haha, I got that part right anyways

Very cool - I covered the rest of the second hand, and you are right - moves exactly the same as the one in the circle.
