I'm looking to get my black dial CSO on croco for the fall. I can't decide between brown or gold croco? I did a search on the site and this is a picture from CometMan (hope he doesn't mind me using it) that really caught my eye. Is that gold or brown? I really like that combo of brown with the black, gives it a pop. How would the CSO look on both, brown/gold?

It looks in between brown and gold. I think it is brown and I would recommend brown for the dark dial. The problem with straps is most ADs do not carry them in stock so it's hard to check before you buy. I just picked up a black croco yesterday for my Evo. Get ready for sticker shock! :wowzers

EDIT - here is a pic of untreated Gold on left versus untreated brown on right. There is variation form batch to batch.

Thanks Tom for posting the two straps together. They're pretty similar but at the same time different. Its a difficult decision, I kind of like the lighter color. I remember you saying that for a black dial you would go with the brown and for a white dial, gold. Sticker shock, you can say that again. You ended up going with the short strap for the black croco at a $50 premium for a total $550. Bottom line, out the door at $600 probably. I am going to the AD now to try my luck and see if they have them in stock...

No, it's up to $690 inclusive of the $50 for the short strap.

Hi Alex,

I chose the gold. Keep in mind that croco straps get darker with wear. Hence, IMO a brown would tend to look much more darker than it actually is after some months of wear.

I do not have a brown pic to post but here's one with a gold:

Hope this helps.

Thank you fellas for the comments/help. I did go to my AD yesterday but they had nothing in stock. I guess I'll have to sharpen my thoughts and order one and see how it fits.

I am going to have to vote gold by a very close margin. It just has a hint more "pop" to it. Don't forget that if the gold is too light for your tastes you can apply the Sharkman olive oil method :cheer: to get somewhere between the two.

As for the sticker shock  ....Man I have been really wanting to add a black croc for my Navi since the day it arrived. I just cant quite pull the trigger just to upgrade, but eventually will nut up and do it.

I wear my black dialled AS with a dark brown croco and really like it. I kind of feel like the lighter one would jar a bit; just too different tonally from the dial.
