I know I've been told it's not unusual to have a group of Asian tourists walk into my AD and pick a few high end pieces from Patek, Lange, and VC.

There are 2 Bucherer stores, that really print the money: Interlaken and Luzern. They are multilevel buildings, specialized on asian tourists. They are each supposed to be selling more than thousand watches on a "bad" day. It is really fascinating to go in there as a european, as You are more or less treated like a piece of shit, as they are not prepared for You.

When I listed my Bucherer for sale on the bay I had four guys in a matter of hours from Asia contact me about it. It sold in no time to a guy in Hong Kong. They are very hot for the brand. OT... but i went into an AD last week who carriers Bucherer and they make some beautiful watches, their rose gold pieces are some of the nicest that I've seen. That brand is heading in the right direction.

The focus on Asian markets has been well documented and it makes perfect sense for brands to go after that market, but I'm still confused by Breitling's moves in this regard. I'm not of that demographic so perhaps not qualified to comment, but when I look at other brands who are producing watches targetting the Asian markets I don't see design consistency with Breitling's moves.

Maybe that makes them innovative, maybe not. Regardless, the number of watches that are in non Asian ADs clearly means that they are relying on these models in other markets as well, not all of those sales will be to tourists.

I live in the NYC area and so have more choices available (including the boutique) than others when it comes to Breitling vendors.

Putting the boutique and tourneau aside, smaller dealers have a decently representative stock of '11 models AND B01s. Kenjo, Lenox, Betteridge and Ross Simons (malls) all have a good amount of stock. I can't say whether they are turning the inventory over, although anecdotally as far as the B01s are concerned it doesn't appear those models are selling.

But that's just my opinion. I can say that working in the financial industry and having been fortunate enough to survive the carnage that took out a lot of my colleagues, a lot of people who bought Breitlings these past 5-6 years may not be in a position to purchase another-or any luxury timepiece for that matter-for a long, long while.

i find myself asking the same question. I have spoken to a good number of my parents friends and when I ask them about Breitling they almost turn their nose to the thought. but you throw out the names PP or AP and they are on it like flies on ...well you know.

I have a few friends who live in Asia and they dont even give breitling much thought.

That's so true Thomas. And it's not that they're not prepared for you, it's that the Asian tourists pay the price tag with no questions asked, so there is no time lost in fruitless discussions about discount. So, why bother with a poor European who dared to ask for one?

This thread is more enlightening then any evening news program could ever be. It all makes perfect sense but the typical dumb American has no clue what is really going on in the world around them and that they have fallen way down the food chain.
I was Gobsmacked at Fears statement about the million in sales figures a day for fine watches from Asian Tourists. This is a FAR cry from the Straw hat wearing Asian Rice farmer that Americans think they are competing with in the world economy.

America is the New France/England. Past its prime and probably headed for an even bigger fall from its position in the world. Makes you wonder what world politics will look like in 20 to 30 years.
