Just came out of two days of meetings at work where the guy sitting across from me had a green crystal Milgauss. This is the watch I've always felt would be my "gateway" Rolex but I've never chased it.

Well, a few hours into yesterday's meeting I noticed the band and clasp and narrowed the possibilities down to a Milgauss or Datejust II. He was sitting pretty far away and I never got a good view of the watch head at all.

Today he sits close by and I see the green glass Milgauss pop out, gave it a good stare and ogling for a few minutes. I need to try one on. If it fits my 7 3/4" wrist well then I'm in love!

I had never paid much mind to the Milgauss until I saw the GV in an airport a bit back. I was hooked instantly, and know this will be my first Rolex. It may be a while, but it will be mine.

It would be nice if it had the date complication.

I have not tried a Sub because I'm afraid a 40mm diver will wear too small on my wrist. I have an Omega SMP that I believe is 41mm and that is a bit small. The larger dial of the Milgauss in a 40mm case should allow it to wear large enough for my wrist.

That's the wishful thinking anyway:). Will certainly look at the Sub and Datejust II at the AD though.

I love the Milgauss. I never thought I'd buy a Rolex, but i'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Here's wrist shots of the Sub C and Milgauss for a comparison. I have about a 6.5" wrist.

Problem with the Milgauss IMO is that the band is only 18mm :/ which looks tiny on leather - I won't wear a metal band.

Thank you for these pics Ricardo! I spent hours last night trying to compare the two, this is really perfect! I think you guys might be right, I need to at least give the Sub C a shot. I do like the Milgauss but the Sub might be more versatile and if it really wears large then it could work.

Here is a pic of my wrist with a 41mm SMP for size reference.

Slightly O/T, but not entirely: the Milgauss has the same basic dial layout as the DJII. Does anybody think that with such pronounced batons, the hands should have been made a little wider, with wider lume strips? It seems like the batons dwarf the hands. That effect appears to be more pronounced on the DJII, since it is a bigger watch. Or am I just being picky? (All the talk about the Explorer having small hands has me really paying attention to the proportions of hands to dial.)

I like the Milgauss with the Black dial, but I just checked out the white dial a few days ago and it looks really cheap. The bright orange seconds hand in combination with a very "plasticy" looking white dial and it really does nothing for me. I love the concept of the Milgauss, but unlike many of Rolex's other timepieces, I think pictures of a Milgauss are much too flattering. IMO, they look much better in pictures than they do when you actually hold them or put them on.

I think you're being too picky. The size of the dial is too small to apply larger hands - then it would wind up looking like a new SuperOcean. If you want more lume and wider hands, the DJII is not a model for you.
