NOW you're talking! And, if you like the "old" PO better you have the option of going pre-loved on both. POs seem to be going for about 2200 and Fish can be had for just under 2. Your budget was about 3, right? Now you see why many of us around here are certifiable.

This thread has some wrist shots of the new POs in both sizes and colors as well as photos of the liquid metal and standard PO. It's not the side by side comparison but it's good enough. You'll have to scroll all the way through to see all the photos.

What is the difference between the "current" and "new" PO? I like the one pictured on the left of this link, which is that? If I go to buy it from an AD, how do I explain to them which one I want? Are the terms new and current common when talking about the PO? Is their different model numbers or something?[/quote]
The one on the left is the current, original, PO. Some of the differences are:

The new one has a ceramic bezel, and it's shaped differently. The crown and he valve are bigger and shaped differently. The hands are shaped differently. The numbers on the dial and the omega are applied instead of painted on. It has an upgraded, I think in house, movement. I'm pretty sure it has a display back. The bracelet is not as curved and it uses screws instead of pins. the clasp is shaped differently. It's shorter and wider but still doesn't have a micro adjustment.

Anyway. It's a good decision to get both the sf an PO. You'll have everything you wanted then.

I completely understand! :-)

And yes, I was trying to keep my budget below 3k, preferably staying closer to the 2k range. I was willing to spend 3k on a brand new PO. H

Thanks for your detailed explanation. I didn't realize their were so many differences. Just so I'm clear, the "new" PO has either not come out yet, or has just recently came out, right? Does that mean that if I were to buy it new from an AD, that I would automatically get the "new" PO or would I still be able to get the "current/original"? The original PO came out in 2005, right?

The new PO was unveiled at Basel in March, but has not been made available to stores. It should be available in another couple of months, give or take. What you get from an AD depends on his stock. I imagine many ADs will still have old stock on hand, and will be selling old and new POs next to each other. Therefore, don't assume anything is "automatic" when you buy. Always be clear on what you want, and specify it to the dealer.

Anyway here is the link to the interview with the omega CEO. Check out how big the new PO chrono is on his wrist. It looks great.

Too big for me, alas. I don't doubt it's a great watch, and I really like what they've done with the hour and minute totalizer reading like a clock face; I think it will be much easier to read. But the degree of bulkiness I see on the CEO's wrist is exactly what I'm trying to get away from.

In that other thread, the pic I liked the most was of the 2010 Liquidmetal on the mesh bracelet. I guess I like the slick look. I'm still enamored of the new SMP, though. I've always had a soft spot for the SMP, but there were certain details about it I didn't like. As far as my own tastes go, this newest version appears to have remedied those details, while keeping what I like about the watch intact.

Hmm...the bezels sure do sound matte, that's for sure. I still want to know if the same thing applies to the new SMP bezels. It makes sense to have matte bezels to go with matte dials, but it strikes me as odd if they would have a matte dial to go with a glossy, lacquered dial.

Link to new pics in the other thread I just posted. The new SMP bezel looks pretty glossy to me.
