After having 14 Lings, I have left the brand as well about 3 weeks ago. Only way I'd come back is if we were able to design a breitlingsource LE...then it's welcome back Breitling!

Congrats man. I love the sea dweller, it's such a great watch and a timeless classic. I'll be honest, I've been thinking about selling my Blackbird also and getting something else but everything I want is about twice as much as the BB so it's not really worth it to me. I still love the BB but there's always something else out there that I want. Oh well, time to start saving up the pennies.

Very nice addition to the family martini!

I think the SD will be a great compliment to the rest of your collection.

As for being done with breitling.....well that is a shame, but I too have wondered If I will be buying another B. I just made my first IWC purchase and am pleased with it. I think for diversity sake I will probably move on to try other brands, but the price increases have hit all brands, so no matter what you are looking at a significant cash outlay will have to be put down.

My two current Lings are not going anywhere soon because as has already been stated.....classic is classic, even if the new direction is not my taste.

Congrats and throw some pics up soon.

It is a Breitling forum. And this is a thread about how Breitling sucks. I don't see the problem. :poke:

This series of postings has really disturbed me. I just bought a NAVITIMER montbrillant Olympus. I sold my 1977 Rolex submariner for this Breitling because I had had the Rolex since new, was in the time of life when I wanted something of a change, and deeply wanted a proper moon phase. I thought the Olympus fit my desires perfectly, and Andrew Michaels was an exceptional shop to do (Internet) business with. Now, when I see postings like this and other derogatory opinions about Breitling watches and miserable repair stories, I really wonder if I made the right choice. I have ven been looking at chrono-matic cosmonauts, but now I am not so sure. I will be watching my Olympus, but so far, after a couple months, it is right on. I can only hope it stays that way.

I still don't get it. You take current and future Breitling designs into account when you think about whether you like your watch or not? You don't like your Blackbird anymore because it needed repair and the new offers for Breilting aren't to your taste or are "straying too far from their lineage"?

Of course - how else do brands come into and lose favor for people. I bought into Breitling for what I thought it stood for - it doesn't stand for what I thought it stood for anymore, so I'm done with it (for now).

Omega went through a similar setback a few years ago and figured out how to get back on track and if anything, I'm not bashing Breitling. I'm saying that I hope it can find its way back as it truly is a "classic" luxury watch brand IMO.

As for the Milgauss - I checked a few out - they just seemed to be a bit too bubblegum for me when you see them in person. Especially the white one - the orange is just to neon and again, it looks cheap/plasticky.

I'm not giving up on Breitling though - I do love the new Transocean (non-chrono) - but I'm not shelling out $8,000+ - it's not worth it.

Let me make it clear that when I say Breitling "sucks," I'm being darkly humorous, and am directing that humor at others who know where I'm coming from and feel similarly. I certainly don't want to put anybody off the brand, or cause people to start disliking the models they once liked. I'm writing from the perspective of someone who used to really like the brand's models, and simply dislike the direction the brand has currently taken. There are still plenty of older Breitling models I like - including the Montbrillant Olympus. That's a classic model, and you shouldn't feel the least bit bad about getting it. I've been lucky in that I haven't had to deal with Breitling service, as the watches I've had have performed well, so I don't have any repair stories to offer. At any rate, I hope my comments don't disturb you too much. I can't speak for anybody else's intent in making their comments.

did anyone ever just consider that breitlings new watches might be targeting a younger generation? ever think your getting to old and its time to buy a rolex? jk but really im sorry to hear you have had problems with you watch. it could happen to any of us with any brand. for the most part percentage of people who have problems with their watches might forget to tell you they dropped it golfed with it punched someone with it ect. and still problem watches are few and far between

Actually, that's exactly what I've been thinking. No joke.

My biggest beef with the Milguass is the lighting bolt second hand. It just strikes me as gimmicky, and an unusual design choice by a typically conservative brand. Otherwise, I do like the black dial with green crystal. I could do without the orange markers, but those aren't a deal breaker for me. But there are a number of Rolexes I'd go with over a Milgauss. Lord help me, I just discovered the Datejust II. Now I've got three models to consider.

I'm fortunate to have an extremely trustworthy dealer here in Chicago. I didn't pay anything close to $8k for the Sea Dweller - in fact, I paid about the same amount for it that my BlackBird cost me about 4 years ago - and keep in mind I got a 25% discount right off the bat. Between the trade-in and a few things I helped my AD with, my "out of pocket" cost for the Sea Dweller was nominal.

As others have mentioned, I have a great respect for some of Breitling's past models...the BlackBird is my favorite of the most recent models; however, I used to salivate in anticipation of reading these boards as Basel would come upon us and for the past couple of years, it was like someone letting the air out of a balloon....lots of hype and not much to get excited about...in fact, just a lot of head scratching.

And I will repeat myself when I say that the majority of the members of this particular community are by far the most helpful and genuinely nice people in talk forums. I have learned a LOT here and cannot express my appreciation enough. Regardless of what someone wears (Breitling or not) - I feel like most of the folks here just like geeking out on watches and trying to help each other out - and I've enjoyed it very, very much.

You keep speaking in past tense. Nothing says you have to leave, you know.
