Hi,

I am about to get my first Breitling. An exciting but nervous time. I think the Navitimer 92 is the one for me but I am really worried about ending up with a fake. I have seen a couple online and I wondered if someone would mind having a look for me?

Both look ok to me. I would have thought this model would be a little cheaper than a lot of other Navis due to its unusual small size. The bigger versions tend to be more popular

The unusual size is part of the appeal for me. I am used to a small watch (vintage seamaster) so am starting with a smaller Breitling.

I did think they were quite high but I didn't find any cheaper. What should I be paying for one in very good condition?

pricewise I have seen 92s going quite high over the last weeks, a 92 from Taiwan on bracelet went up to US$ 3,250, auctions in Europe ended around US$ 2,500

if you are very patient you might find a Navi 92 SS around/below € 1,500/US$2,100, SS/18k ones tend to go quite a lot higher.
(was watching these as I was looking (successfully, finally) for a Cosmo 92 for some time)

What do you guys think to this one? It's price has already made me a little suspicious. The back looks different to the other two.

Its real but a bit of a "Franken" watch. The dial appears to be for the "Football" special edition, but with the conventional 92 outer sliderule bezel. (If it was a complete and original Football LE it would be quite rare and valuable) The bracelet is a generic non-Breitling one too.

If you are looking for small (38mm) versions Navis, have you considered the Montbrilliant model?

Anything that says "special edition" is usually too good to be true. I would not be too concerned about the strap as I plan to put leather on it anyway. Most of my older watches have mod'd dials so that doesn't concern me too much either (as long as it is done well). Would I have trouble selling this on for the same kind of money do you think? Does this look like a "runt" to people who know what they are talking about?

I have considered the MB model. I actually like that a lot. It is slightly thicker than this one and seems to go for quite a lot more money. I would still definitely consider one though.

Yeah, I would avoid this one as the dial and bezel scales don't match up so the sliderule does not function as intended.
An early pre-COSC Monty might be in your budget but the trouble is the early ones had synthetic crystals which I'm not keen on

Yeah, I think you are right.

I just had a quick scan for MBs. I did find this one - 110710226838. It is 1.5m thicker than the 92 though. This might make a difference on my 6.5" wrist. I notice that the MB is quite a bit lighter than most of the other models (54.g). Any idea on the weight of a 92? It is not listed on here.

Nope. I still prefer the 92. Just need to find one that isn't pricey or shifty...

You can at least buy 92s and 38mm Montbrilliants with confidence. Because their Caliber 30 movement uses a custom made chronograph unit, there aren't any accurate fakes. So if the subdial spacings and proportions look ok, the watch is real

That is good news. I will still post the one I buy on here as I wouldn't have a clue what the correct spacing looks like. The internet is great for finding helpful people who know what they are talking about.
