I found an Emergency on Craigslist and it was priced pretty decent. Contacted the guy and talked him down quite a bit to a price that would be considered a steal. Then I asked him to send me some additional pictures since the ones on Craiglist were not very good. Amongst the pics he sent was a picture of the side of the watch (which was not on Craigslist), with this gem etched in.

I mean, seriously? Needless to say, I am no longer buying the watch.

I wouldnt walk just yet. That might be able to be removed. Get him to give you some more $$ off because of it though.

He also doesn't have the papers for it. I was considering it, even without the papers, at $2,300, but I don't think I would pay more than $1,500 for it now. It is 5 years old, last service was 3 years ago, and it needs a good polish (aside from the fact that those letters need to be removed).

I could get most, if not all of that horror show out in about a half an hour, but you would be nuts to spend more than about $1200 on it w/o a complete box set and papers. figure in the cost of a full service at $500-600 [providing that the antenna has not been deployed] and another $500 for a complete box set....

This is a perfect example of how to kill the resale value of your watch.

Cheers.

Killing the resale value of an Emergency is pretty simple : just lose the case, papers, tester, screwdriver & all that and your there. Etching your initials in it gives it it's final nail in the coffin. Not much worth more than about 1.000€ (1.250$).
