OK a guy I know got this on a Breitling Top Time a few years ago he felt it was fake and sent it to me to see what I thought, I thought fake so told him that and he said OK throw it away however I put it on one side. A few weeks a go I was looking at a 70s watch in a dealers advert and lo and behold he had the exact same strap and buckle and said it was genuine so its over to you guys what do you think.

Please bear in mind this is from the 70s its not a modern strap so is this what 70s straps/buckles looked like.

No idea whether it is real or not, but it's 'consistent'.

Buckle could be an early winged logo version from the 80s, not sure.

Cheers Roff I thought it was fake but it seams very high quality and the buckle is engraved quite deeply not like any fakes I have seen and it loooks way to early to be faked,My feeling now is its genuine. :lingsrock:

But remember that the logo didn't exist until 84, so not period correct for a 70s watch.

The buckle looks like the plating is wearing off. Surely it should be solid stainless steel?

You have to remember Breitling in the 70s/80s was not doing to well and changed hands in 1979 so you didnt get the quality you do now.

As I said, I'm not sure on the buckle, not at all familiar with 80s tangs.

Straps were like today, available for any model - 20mm was the go to lug size in the 80s.

Buckle's identical to one in my collection, the only thing that concerns me regarding the strap is the the "20" for the lug width on all my old straps is "across"the strap, not along it.

I think Breitling had many different suppliers in the 80s so maybe different specs
