I have received a vintage Breitling from a chinese seller on ebay. I am not sure whether it is fake or genuine. How do I tell? It is a 17 Jewels watch circa 1950.
Thank you.

pics would confirm this, but literally all "Breitling" watches out of China are fakes.
And is say "literally all" only because there might be an authentic vintage Breitling somewher in China, I just did not see one yet.
most of them look like the examples below:

Complete fabrication I'm afraid.

You probably don't want to hear this, but that price would have been a bit high if it was real.

Can you file a claim with eBay / PayPal??

Really? I will try to file a claim. Do you know where would be a good/reliable source for an authentic Breitling for around £400/£500?

You can find plenty of three hand Breitling's on eBay for that money, just ask about them in the vintage section here before you bid :!:

I've raised the issue of vintage fakes from China like this on here before but didn't pursue it due to a caveat emptor apathy. This poor chap has been conned out of £500 as a result. Perhaps we should hunt these fakes on Ebay with the same zeal we do for our Argentinian friend.

ade113, we only list the worst, most stupid examples of vintage fakes from Argentina, and I have started to post a weekly "vintage laugh" and vintage fake example list from the US, Turkey and Italy.

some from the last days:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=30845
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=30783
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=30784
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=30758
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=30683
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=30466

We only report those in the blatant cases, when somebody uses a 1984 logo on a 1950s "vintage".
It would require at least 10 reports a day, that all of us would have to support.

The three examples of "authentic China vintage Breitlings" were all from current active ebay listings.

To the OP:
I assume you have paid by paypal. Post the link to the listing, we will tell you what wording to use in a "item not as described" case you have to open with paypal, you should have no problem getting your money back.

Thanks but I have contacted then seller via Ebay already. He has offerred a full refund after trying to assure me the watch is genuine. He would though! I am a bit worried about sending it back without any guarantee that I'll see my money again but I guess I have no choice. He seems to be selling lots of these watches on Ebay.

the China "vintage" guys are overdoing it:
http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-SWISS-BREIT ... 27bbdb3339

US$ 999 BIN, for a complete "vintage" fabrication. Fraud by a "top rated" seller.

And, as the OP has shown, they are finding buyers.

Should we not try to put an end to this ?
