I told you guys about the IWC two weeks ago, but I was also picking up another fine ultra limited piece! For some reason all ME limited editions are made in editions of 70 pieces! Which is a plus in my opinion, though they are harder to get, it is almost impossible to find another person wearing the same watch! Especially since these two brands have a following of avid collectors who never unbox them.

I promise I will do a proper review with decent quality pictures and close ups, as well as a video. Unfortunately work has been a killer this past two weeks (gotta pay for these things somehow!)

The IWC is a perpetual calendar with a slightly upgraded version of their 7 day movement. The finishing is slightly better but more importantly it far more reliable and accurate than the standard version. Two weeks at +2 seconds a day, so far so good. One of the things that I love about this perpetual calendar is that it does not have a zillion pushers, all functions are controlled from one crown. Aesthetically this is optimal for the design of the watch. On the negative side it is a pain to adjust if you go past the correct date or a ways off. IWC has tried to offset this by having four setting positions on the crown, zero, winding, date set, and a calendar date set. If you leave the watch alone for a couple of months or even a year, then it is easy to get to the right setting through the fourth setting, if you do go past it, the only way to fix it is by pulling the crown to the third position (stops the watch) and wait a day or two until it is correct. This is no where as easy to set as other complicated PC watches, but to be fair the 7 day reserve means you hardly ever need to reset the watch and if you are carefull setting the time and date is a cinch since the day, date, month, and moon phase functions are mechanically programed to be correct until 2499 (meaning if you set the day and month all other indications are automatically correct!)

The watch is exceptionally readable and balanced, especially for a perpetual calendar! The moon phase indicator and color combination makes this a truly unique piece. I think it is amazing that IWC was able to keep the basic character of the BP intact while adding such a complicated mechanism! The case is not thicker even with the far more complicated movement inside. Another great move was to include a display back for the LE as opposed to the iron cage, though I have to admit after owning the Glashutte IWC's finishing is no longer as mesmerizing.

The Panerai is another ME limited edition of 70, the case has a very unique look to it, its not black like ceramic or PVD or silver like steel, the material has a gun metal look to it, a very grey look that cant be compared to PVD, ceramic, steel, or titanium. Frankly it looks spectacular! And the black movement is equally awesome! It looks horrible in pictures so watch out for the video soon.

And the promised unboxing pics:

And finally, my other recent pick up, the indomitable AP ROO Black Themes! Simply a spectacular watch and my third favorite watch (after the BP PC and Glashutte). Life is good! May you all be so fortunate.

Many Congratulations Altair.

Three 'pieces that have me drooling and green with envy.

You are indeed fortunate but we are also fortunate that you are not one of those collectors that never opens the boxes and that you share your personal thoughts and great pictures/videos of these stunning timepieces with us.

If I had to pick a favourite.......................nope, couldn't do it.

Awesome pieces Altair!

I have to say I was amused by you just nonchalantly throwing in an AP ROO at the end as well! Almost like, "Oh yeah, and I nearly forgot about this old thing!" That's go to be the lowest key reveal of an AWESOME watch that I've ever seen!

What's the case made of on that Panerai BTW? I assume it's a grey PVD on steel(?), but I don't think you said...... unless I missed it due to myself drooling over that BP!

Superb pickups Altair, although the BP is the real stand out by a million miles in my book. I do like the AP as well, but I think your Safari Themes is a fraction nicer IMO. Great to have both options though!

Amazing pickups!

Great choices there A!

Hadn't thought too much about the Flyback SE but it's looking pretty good. Cant wait to see your full photo review.

Looks like its a good idea to actually read the manual on the IWC :wowzers

Not too shabby at all Altair! Hard to pick a favourite, I even like the PAM  Seriously though very very nice editions you must be thrilled. Your watch collection really is morphing into something else. I'm glad to live vicariously though it all.

I guess high gas prices do have their advantages for some.
