Two weeks ago I got my '97 Chrono Cockpit back from service from running VERY fast (it was picking up +4 seconds per 1-minute.)

Yesterday or the day before, the "B" with the anchor broke off the bottom of the second hand. Also the second hand is not reseting to zero....it's somewhere between 59 and 1 depending on where the second hand was when you hit reset. I'm not sure it if they have anything to do with each other, but it looks like it going back.

Anybody have an idea what a new second hand costs?? It's still in the face, wedged up between the face and tachometer. I'm not sure if something so small and delicate can be silver soldered or not.

I've worn this watch every day for 14 years that it hasn't been in the shop. I would wear it for the rest of my life, but I'm up to almost a $1000 in servicing.

You're good. The service you had would included changing the hands - they are single use and taking the movement out requires removing the hands and replacing them with new ones. It should be fully covered under the 1 year factory service warranty.

It wasn't a full service, they just replaced the spring or demagnetized it.

I'm not an expert, but if they replaced the spring, they pulled the movement out. How much did they charge you? What was on the invoice?

Dropping the watch through a demagnetiser isn't going to have affected the seconds hand - that's completely non invasive. If on the other hand they opened it up and replaced the mainspring then that required a service and I would be insisting that the seconds hand and potential chrono reset problem be addressed as they may have caused that problem.

If it was just a 10 second demagnetising job then you will likely have to pay for a service (how long since the last one?).

I had it services about 18 months ago because it was losing a couple minutes a day.

Then, in February, this happened: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=28274

I dropped it off, and even though it was out of warranty, they fixed it for free (took a month.) I never found out what they fixed, my parents picked it up for me since they were going to be there anyway.

I'm going to take it back next Tuesday or Wednesday. They were nice enough to fix it for free, so I can't say too much. They didn't break it on purpose, and it wasn't like this when I got it back. Everything was fine for two weeks. I'm hoping they'll cover the work,a nd if I have to cover anything, it's just the hand itself.

I'm not oversimplifying things - demagnetising a watch takes about 5 seconds. If they took a month then they likely did more (and opened the watch) and they should therefore cover this.

I know.....they ran it through the coil while I was there, but "the spring was still sticking". So I didn't know if they ran it through a few more times, removed components and individually ran them through the coil, replaced components, or ???

Doesn't make much sense - if they opened the case then it probably had a basic service and should be warranteed.
