Never really paid attention to how my watch is keeping time since I bought it a year ago, but thought I'd see how it's getting on.

So I set my Super Avenger on Monday morning, and checked it just now, Thursday night.

It's 12 seconds fast, you reckon this would be within COSC spec for a week?

Well i believe cosc is +6 secs or -4 sec per day.

So for me bingo.

What are the figures for time loss/gain per week? because I read it somewhere a while back, and iirc it was not +6/-4 multiplied by 7.

That's some "new math" with which I am unfamiliar.

What I meant to say is, if COSC is +6 or -4 I would have thought for the week you'd just multiply by 7 so it'd be +42, -28.
But I read somewhere and the figures were lower than this, unless I misunderstood

I must have the 2 worst running breitlings out there. i see all these post how well others are running? i bought 2 brand new from a add in the last 6 months, the first (seawolf) was running + 8 seconds so i sent it in and it came back at +6 (whoopy) the second (superocean) is runnig at +6 a day Ive had much better luck with non cosc movements.

The only COSC spec for mechanical watches is -4 / +6 per day. In reality there will likely be a lower error in a 7 day period because watches will gain / lose at different rates under different conditions so temperature, time on the wrist, activities, etc will all impact the rate, but there is no COSC spec for a week.

My SA purchased on 29-12-2009.....35+ for a seven day period........but that is a constant reading with no deviations.
So for 5 seconds a day, who lives that close to the mark?.......

Hi. I'm lucky with my 6 month ok'd steelfish, it gains 1.5 seconds a day. One thing is, what's your time source for the calibration? In the UK we have time pips broadcast which are accurate. PC and other clocks can be out. On the iPhone there is a brill free app called time by Emerald & sequoia which is v accurate atomic time.

If you take the watch off at night, leaving it on it's side slows it down compared to it being on it's back.

Hopefully no-one who owns an automatic watch or else they'll probably go mad!

Incidentally, my watches are all within COSC specification, with the exception of two :- my Lum Tec M25 which loses about 6 seconds a day (which I can live with as firstly, 6 secs isn't that much, secondly it's non-COSC certified anyway, and thirdly wasn't a very expensive watch), and the other is my IWC Big Pilot which gains oh......, anywhere between 10 and 25 seconds a day (which I most definitely can't live with as firstly, IWC claim to ensure all their watches are more accurate that COSC : 0/+7 secs a day , secondly it's been back to IWC numerous times to fix it, and 10 secs is the best they can manage even at the factory in Switzerland, and thirdly my most expensive watch by some margin and it just p*sses me off!)

That is probably the most important part. The fact that is so consistent demonstrated that your is capable of being extremely precise with a small regulation.
