Hi

I'm curious about the emergency watch having looked at it in the catalogue.

Ok, where the 6 o clock strap joins the watch there is a large cylinder with a cap - this is obviously where the antenna is, its unscrewed and pulled out to activate it all, and it starts transmitting. Ok.

My question though is about the other cylinder, where the 12 o clock strap joins the watch, there is another similar but thinner cylinder, again with a screw off cap. What's that for and what happens if you unscrew the cap? I can't work out what it's for. The cut away diagram in the catalogue just shows a hollow tube there.

Fascinating. I never knew how the Emergency worked. Thanks for posting that.

I think that the Emergency line is the only "tool" in the professional line from Breitling.
So if you buy it as a "toy watch", it's your choice, but it's not its first role.

Other posts here about "complaining" of the cost for the 2 years maintenance service (the first one is offered by Breitling) for a "tool watch" that could save your life does not cost a lot.
It's my point of view. I got one for years now, the second generation, E526121.1 with a copilot module.
What's original, it's to pay for a watch and its maintenance service and of course I hope to never use it (or I will be in real trouble and it will save my life when I fly in a personnal plane).

The maintenance service for the Emergency comprises all the work required to ensure smooth operating of the instrument as well as re-polishing of the case and bracelet. Two years after its purchase, the firstmaintenance service is provided free of charge by Breitling.
And of course if you deploy the antenna in a non real emergency matters, it will costs to you a lot (15.000 Euros and more) and the lost of the watch, which is a single use.
On the other hand, is the watch is used in real emergency with a plane, the watch and the beacon will be replaced by Breitling free of charge.

We've discussed this before, but I think it's odd Breitling insists the watch be used in an emergency connected with an airplane. I guess if a person hikes or sails, and wants some kind of emergency homing beacon, he shouldn't consider a Breitling.

And as we have also said before, in a real Emergency Breitling doesn't make a big deal of it. The first civillian Emergencies were issued by Breitling to the Mata Rangi expedition where they helped save the lives of 13 people on a raft in the Ocean - nothing to do with aircraft.

Alright then, I'll cut them some slack.

Do you know I had been looking at the extra cap and barrel and too was wondering what was in there.... I'd be scared to death to open it ha ha search and rescue over the house LOL Also I did not know once activated the watch is done? Surely it can be redone by Breitling and the aerial etc re packed and reset?

Yes it can be redone by Breitling, if you deploy the 2 antenna's caps for a full service price I think (here in France for more than 340 euros).

If you want to test it, do it with Breitling tester included in the case sold with the watch.
I also check it in the plane, baeety on, radio on, selecting 121.5 MHz selected. Then I put a tip on the tester on the back of the watch to heard inside my headset the famous B in morse and the warning signal. After that, shut down the radio and starting up the engine and go for a good safety fly (Cesna 172).

Nope.

Watch has to go back to Switzerland and if it was activated because of a genuine emergency Breitling will replace.
