Not only do I place my watch on the dealer pad, the AD (at times) will have 4-6 watches ALL out for me to compare and often dissapear into the back room looking through the safe for a particular brand that isnt in the display case. A couple times they have taken my watch into the back and cleaned it while I was shopping. I try on as many watches as my wifes patience will allow. Sometimes I buy one, but more often I walk out without buying a darn thing. I will (and have) had them trade straps and bracelets, so I could see the difference. I have even had them fit the bracelet to my wrist! I will walk around in the store with the new watches on and if I want I will work every function. (not doing this is like not sitting in a car and driving it before the purchase).

They know me, they have ALL my personal information on file and (of course) they have secruity on site with a double locking entry door.

I think a lot of it is attitude. I will go into any random watch store and act the exact same. They sense the confidence and usually I request to see a particular watch .... well before I even show and take off the watch I wore in. A good dealer will treat you great without even seeing your current watch. A great dealer will recognize a true watch fanatic and be even more responsive to your needs.

Personally, I agree with what everyone has said, with the exception of " I have even had them fit the bracelet to my wrist!" To me that seems kind of unnecessary unless you are fairly certain you are going to purchase the watch.

Normally id agree with you, but this is why its nice to have a good relationship with a local dealer. I wouldnt expect any random dealer to regularly do that for people, but it sounds like Broncosport is somebody who has built a relationship with them over some time.

Yep. And I wouldnt even think about having a bracelet sized unless I was pretty serious about the purchase. Just because I know what is involved.

If you're going to spend a large sum of money on a watch why not ask them to size it???? Who cares what it takes to size a watch, if they want the business then they should offer to size it without hesitation. Do you shop for shoes that's are 4 sizes too big or a suit that's huge??? No, you try on a size that fits and then decide.

Is it ok to try to wind the watch or press the pushers????? WHAT!?!?!? Would you buy a car without test driving it? Don't think too much into it, put the watch on, have it sized, play with it, and if you like it buy it.....if you don't keep trying them on until one calls out to you.

Would you buy a $200 pair of jeans without first trying them on? If the watch cannot handle a customer playing with it, then it is not worth purchasing.

All I said was that I think it is acceptable for the dealer to size a bracelet if you are seriously interested in purchasing the watch. The comments about shoes and suit sizes are not necessary (as they are obvious).

It's not quite the same thing, but I've been in the position of having to buy a new Breitling sight unseen from an AD via phone order. At the time I bought my CSO, the only AD in my state had zero stock of Breitlings. I couldn't even try anything on, let alone buy from them. Fortunately, the AD from whom I bought would allow me to return it for a full refund if the watch wasn't what I wanted. Having said that, of course it would have been nice to view and compare a number of different models prior to purchasing.

Turns out the dealer in my state was in the death throes of being authorized to sell Breitlings. We now have a new AD, although it still is the only one in the state. I haven't been there to check out the stock, but I'll make it there sometime.

Its obvious to try on shoes that fit (and probably cost under $200) but not obvious to try on a watch and have it sized which will likely cost you 20x - 30x more money?

The OP asked all of us about etiquette in an AD. My input, which I stand by, is not to have every bracelet in the store sized just to try on. I think you can get a pretty damn good idea of what the fit will be without an official sizing. Again, I am not disagreeing with you. If you are serious and ready to purchase (as in narrowed down to one maybe even two watches) then feel free to have it sized. This is my opinion and it seems that others share it.
