Hello,

I'm completely new to the watch world and I'm looking for a nice watch I could use everyday.

I scanned ebay and came upon this little number.

However, I have no knowledge of these types of watches or how to authenticate or if it's a reasonable price?

Can someone help me out here please?!? :) Thank you !

Hello,

Here is the "regular watch" review: 20/10/2011 prices are about 2500 euros.

Now the price with a diamond bezel, I don't know

Regards,

Hiya, I can't comment 100% on whether it's genuine from the photo, but it looks a nice watch and the back looks genuine. The seller looks ok, but from their feedback they normally sell winders and boxes for £50 or £300 - not £2.5k watches.

One or two concerns, it is really expensive, and it doesn't say its age. I'm not sure how much of the cost is due to the diamonds but they don't cost that much to a jeweller. If it's out of warranty (2 years from new) then if it goes wrong it would be very expensive.

It says it has a scratch on the glass... Firstly that could be very annoying, and secondly, most recent breitlings use crystal not 'glass' and crystal is almost impossible to scratch, only by diamond usually, though it can be chipped I believe. Anyway it's very hard and shouldn't scratch - so if this has glass, it's a huge disadvantage, especially if its already scratched.

Even though it's quartz, i read on here that it can be very expensive to replace the battery, often involving a service which can be £250 plus if breitling haven't serviced it before. Another quartz watch on here had a leaking battery even though it was still running ok, and it was damaged badly.

I've recently switched from a quartz Tag Heuer to an automatic mechanical breitling, and one reason I was happy to pay so much for the breitling was because it IS mechanical, hundreds of tiny parts, all such high precision, it's like a living thing, whereas quartz is available for tens or hundreds of pounds, and I wouldn't have wanted to pay thousands for one.

The box looks fine - but papers are really important if you want to sell it again, ie the instructions, warranty booklet and accuracy certificate. If there are no papers that's not good news and reduces its value.

Paypal should support you if it isn't genuine but it could be a fight to argue over whether it is or not.

Also the seller is not being truthful - if you buy it now on ebay, it comes under distance selling regulations and you ARE entitled to return it for a full refund within I think 7 days. He says you can only return it if it is mis-described, that's incorrect.

I don't think I'd buy it. Lots of the people on here are collectors or specialist watch jewellers and I'm sure they would help you find a watch you would love at around that price but which is new-ish and had a paperwork trail and a warranty too.

It's such a lot of money, it is worth being really careful. If you buy it, say you will return it for any reason you wish under distance selling regs to the seller before you pay, and I would askl its age, about paperwork, service history, a warranty etc etc.

Also, you're in Canada which will make it much harder to sort out any problems if you buy it from the uk, yet another point to consider!

Mart

Hi Martin,

Thank you for your response. For a newbie, you have been very informative.

A couple of things stood out to me as well ie: seller's feedback.

I think I'll pass on this one and continue to look.

Thanks again! :)

I think that's sensible, and people on here will certainly give you advice and assistance. I'm coming to Toronto in June, hope the weather's as hot as we have here right now! Good luck on finding your watch!

Pricing on these is very difficult because the bezel is aftermarket so no real know of being able to value the bezel unless you are a diamond expert. Watch is real but fairly old and I would guess that the price is high, but myabe they are incredible diamonds.
