This is just my opinion... I'm not doubting Omegas quality or reputation however, I could never spend thousands of dollars on something I can walk down to Macy's and buy

I'm not saying that it isn't a good brand or anything...but in my opinion Breitling all the way!

Maybe I'm not going to the right Macy's but I've never seen an omega in Macy's. I wish they sold them in Macy's, then I'd be able to find one near me.

Due to Macy's "localization initiatives," you can actually buy Breitlings at some select Macy's. Retailers such as Macy's will "lease out" part of their store to other retailers - for example Thomas Pink is a stand-alone brand with its own stores, but in some major markets, they have a store within Macy's. If you go to Neiman Marcus and go to buy a Gucci or Prada purse, even though you are buying the purse at Neiman Marcus, the department is actually run by Gucci or Prada representatives.

And for what it's worth, the Costco near our home gets a different Breitling in on almost a monthly basis - so there's that.

The brand speaks for itself, i realy dont care where they are sold. As far as breitling, i own a couple both were bought brand new from govbergs one was running out of cosc specs so i sent it in at my cost waited a month and got the watch back running at +6 seconds a day with a big scratch on it and breitling wont do s*** about it. "Breitling all the way"?? I dont think so. steve

I was just about to post that there's no way Omega is sold at Macy's until I read this. I had no idea.

As far as quality, I think they're right there with Breitling. Some of the Omegas released this year may even have an edge up. Either way, you can't go wrong.

In a number of ways Omega are just above Breitling IMO. They use the Co-Axial escapement which is quite a major innovation, plus they have two in-house movements and at least one "brand exclusive" movement in the 3313. Additionally the level of finishing on their movements is superb. I remember reading a review by a watchmaker of one of their movements and Omega apparently even machine and polish the reverse side of the base plate, which is a part that would never be seen unless the movement was completely dismantled.

I've owned a number of Omegas and (obviously) Breitlings, and in practical terms they are quite comparable with regards to build and finish, etc.

I actually love the Omega releases this year - they seem quite unique and inspired relative to some of their past updates/releases. The new Planet Ocean Chrono is terrific - http://www.omegawatches.com/spirit/baselworld-2011

I like their new releases much better than Breitling's - I do, however, really like the new Breitling Transocean (non-chrono version)

I owned a PO for a couple years, and in terms of quality and performance,
it was every bit the equal of my Breitling Steelfish and Skyland. Problem was,
I just never wore it. Don't ask me why not. :? Anyway I sold it (bought an IWC Aquatimer)
to a fellow on the West Coast who loves it and is giving it lots of TLC. :)

If you want a PO, by all means get one -- it's a great watch.

I really like that two-register chrono.

I think Omega has made mostly elegant, well-constructed but comparatively understated watches. I appreciate the quality and the classic look of a lot of their models, but it can be easy to become a bit bored after a while. The watch market has exploded to such a degree in the last decade or so that the variety of styles available can make the Omega line look a little dowdy at times. They seem to be working, as is Rolex, on gradually modifying their lines a bit. I think I sold my Seamaster and gave my Dynamic chrono to my son a bit out of boredom but keep my Double Eagle because it is unique, and a comparatively dirt cheap two-tone with perpetual calendar (though it is a quartz). Great watch but who knows, with a couple of things I'm eyeing maybe I'll sell it soon.

:yeahthat

And a big thumbs up for using "dowdy," an oft overlooked albeit somewhat archaic word. "Twaddle" fits in that category too. Rarely used and under-appreciated, but consider the potential of this: "Your Honor, the logic behind your ruling is largely TWADDLE and might I add your hair cut looks rather DOWDY. And while we are at it, what's up with that Omega!" Appropriately followed by :nana:

Could work.

It's because the watch market has "exploded" with variety and style that actually makes me appreciate Omega - and dare I say it - Rolex - even more. I think much of the "variety" over the last few years has been very gimicky with certain manufactures desperately trying to get attention (yes Breitling, I'm looking at you) - where Omega, Rolex, Panerai - all have done a great job of sticking to their roots and making changes where it makes sense - typically to improve upon what they are already doing well - not changing for the sake of change.

Well the P.O. has landed, It truely is a awesome timepiece. A couple of you nailed it, the a.r. coating looks better on the breitling and the bracelet on the breitling are better in a couple way's first breitling uses screws not pins and secondly breitling has micro ajustments and the p.o. does not. i do think the movement is better in the omega p.o.(2500) than the breitling (cal 17) All in all they match up pretty even, i realy like the looks of the p.o. in everyway. thanks to all of you for your info. i will post some pics in the gallery section.
