I have a Breitling CHRONOSPACE II / ANTHRACITE DIAL purchased in 1995 and according to Breitling Service in Wilton, CT it requires $740 worth of service (plus tax). The watch originally cost about 1200. I'm trying to find out if it's worth the expense. How much would the watch be worth now that the cheapest Breitling is more than 2200. ?
ASs a guide for selling prices check Chrono24 and completed auctions on eBay. The watch with a service history will be worth at least what the original cost was, maybe slightly more, but if it has never been serviced in the 16 years then buyers will be very wary of it - it should be due for a 3rd service by now. As a general rule you won't get the full cost of a service back - i.e. spend $740 and add $400 - $500 to sale price, but if the watch has no service history at all then you will likely do better servicing and then selling. Of course you can also keep it - after the service the watch will effectively look brand new and be good for another 5 years before the next service.
