So, I got my SkyRacer....Absolutely love it! Anyhow...I decided to do a good polish with a cape cod and clean the watch thoroughly as there was a little grime in the finer crevaces. All went well and the watch looked fantastic.....until I noticed a scratch in the AR running all the way across the crystal!! I guess a piece of debris must have been in the drying cloth. Knowing that it would bug me to death i decided to attempt to polish the scratch out. I didnt think that the cape cod was potent enough to remove AR....so I figured id give it a once over and see if it did anything to the scratch. I quickly noticed that the scratch was gone...and all appeared to be fine, but this morning I noticed that the AR on the outside of the crystal appears to be ever so slightly "cloudy"....its only noticeable under very direct light and when I get a few inches from the watch. Is it possible that the cape cod removed most of the AR but some was left behind? I know the cape cod couldnt possibly scratch the sapphire crystal itself.

I'm OK with the AR being removed on the top, as I know how easily it will get scratched the way I wear watches, I just want to make sure its all off...and done properly.....any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Cape cods will definitely remove AR coating so that's likely what has happened.

Likely the AR is gone. The cloudyness may simply be residue form the chemicals in the Cape Cod. Use hot water and a CLEAN micro fiber cloth and wipe it down several times. Just get one corner of the cloth wet, wipe the crystal, and dry with a dry part of the cloth. Repeat that. Or shoot some diluted Simple Green on the crystal and wipe it off in the same fashion.

I figured that was probably the case as there was a noticeable difference between the Anti-reflectiveness of the crystal after the cape codding. It doesnt bother me that its gone, i just want it to be uniform. I will work on it tonight an dfollow up.

Some elbow grease and a cape cod and you should be able to get all of the AR off. As sharkman suggested though, it might also just be a stain from the cape cod fluid. Ive had AR stains that are insanely tough to get off.

I got this far in the post and knew what was next.. Having read many threads on this forum about the precautions when using Cape Cod I decided to make several scotch tape covers the same size as the crystal and keep them in a drawer with the Cape Cod clothes. Also be aware that you do not want to apply the Cape Cod clothes to anything "brushed". I tape off those areas when needed.
