My AD invited me to a showing of the new 2011 pieces, it was all I could do not to break every traffic law on my way over!

First off the new Forged Carbon is, as expected, an amazing watch! The case design is unbelievable and the watch is remarkable in person! It is a huge watch at 52MM lug to lug and a 44mm dial but wears very well actually! Simply stunning and a must have for me! Street prices to be around the 23K mark once the initial rush calms down.

Here is a pic of it, more in my older thread:

http://www.luxurybazaar.com/items/itemi ... Strap.html

The rose gold and steel are not for me, I dislike the color combinations though I will say the use of ceramics on the RG version as opposed to the rubber clad version makes a huge difference!

Another stunning discovery was the new Jules Audimars Ultra Thin! I immediately disregarded that announcement as I shy away whenever I hear the words Ultra Thin, the movement measures 2.6mm and although that is quite the accomplishment, the other Ultra thin models from VC, JLC, etc usually have a case that is 4-5mm thick and under 40mm, I imagine that would feel like strapping a dollar coin to my wrist! This model however is considerably thicker at 7.6mm thick and a respectable size for a dress watch at 41mm and looks absolutely stunning in person! The RG and black dial version has a presence and luster that exceeds many times over that of more expensive models. I have been on the hunt for a proper dress watch for a while and looked at Patek and Brequet, but it was either the price, size, or design that wasn't right. This one is right on and the price is very fair! They had it for sale at 15k, and if I hadn't already picked up an A Lange and an AP ROO Black themes this month I would have bought it at a heart beat!

Here are a few pics:

Look at the case finishing on that! The workmanship on the rotor and movement finishing is something to behold!

Nice invitation Altair! I have had a chance to get my hands on a few APs lately, and while the ROOs still aren't really my thing there are some attractive pieces and they are exceptional quality. So many watches, so little money

Roff i know you have mentioned a couple of times that ROO and Panerais arent your cup of team. but i have to ask why? I mean for the most part they meet the requirements that you have for an in house piece. is it more the design that you dont like. or is it the value for what you get that you dont like?

Well I am on record as saying that the PAM 382 is on my list of like to owns - the bronze case is different enough to appeal to me.

In terms of the ROOs, I just feel that they offer me anything substantially different to what I already have in my collection. Vaue for money is certainly a bit of an issue, if I look at what else I can get for the same money there is a long list of pieces that appeal more. That's nothing against the brand or the watches, just for me they aren't pieces that I feel add anything to my collection at this point.

i hear what youre saying about value. i often wonder the same thing. For the record I would love to own a ROO one day and this would be a grail watch for me. But with a retail price of about 21k, i could own a Rolex 11610, a pam 359 and that new Zenith chrono stratos. so thats a pretty hard sale.

The Ultra thin is certainly a classic looking piece Altair but not for me I'm afraid, despite the obvious wonderful finishing; I just don't like it enough.

It would however certainly fit your 'need' for a dress watch. Nice invitation by the way.

You've gotta love a bit of forged carbon! Bit out of my price range though unfortunately.

I'd be happy enough if I can ever get hold of a Safari ROO like yours, Altair.

Tim, I didnt fall head over heals from the pics as well, but that watch has to be seen in person!

Driver, the Safari is an amazing watch and a permanent member of my collection! AP did an amazing job on the color combination as well! Heres to you getting yours soon!

I'd really like to but I don't think there's an AP AD in the state unfortunately  I'll be in New York in September though so will make sure I look one up then.

I'm another that really wants an AP ROO Safari but alas that will be in a while. I can see why you think it's a keeper.
