Have you considered a JLC Master Control? I think the RG model can be had within your budget. It offers JLC's outstanding quality and in-house movement with timeless styling and a reasonable size that a Rolex guy should appreciate.

The Master Control series from JLC is a good option. I think you are looking at over $10K easily for a RG version, but with a nice discount you can get close. Check out the Master Control Chrono...that watch is stunning in both stainless steel as well as RG. The issue you are going to have with the Master Control series is that most of the watches are 39-41mm...so slightly smaller than what you were looking for.

If you want something in the 43mm range then I agree with Sergio...look at the Portuguese line from IWC, but stay away from the Yacht Club.

If you want another alternative what about the Zenith Captain at 42mm? Retrotimer is the same size as well, and cheaper. You won't get Zenith gold for that money, but they are both El Primeros.

I will look into that! THANKS!

A gold Master Control would certainly fit the bill. So would the DJ 2 - if your Dad has an older model he might be quite impressed with the new one. (I am and I hated these things not too long ago!!)

Might be a little bit small since he wants something around 43mm.

The 41m DJ 2 actually wears quite large, just as the Sub c and GMT Master IIc wear a lot larger than 40mm. The Explorer, on the other hand, wears smaller than the actual 40mm size.

But why not just go balls to the walls for the old man - get him a VC Overseas Automatic, yellow gold (since he's into Rolex, I assume he likes yellow gold), white dial, on the alligator strap??? 42mm but wears 43mm.

Ah, I had thought the DJ2 was 42mm. Never tried on a Master Control but I think its quite thin which might make it wear even smaller.

I think TT DJ2 sounds like a good choice though.

Perhaps something along the lines of this one. I happen to know the guy wearing it "qualifies" as on the border of "old man."

Very nice! But too similar to what he currently has. Despite his thing with Rolex's, I want him to get something a bit different!

There was when I posted it. Let me investigate - "we are doing a little work right now," Seems the entire photobucket site is under maintenance. Good thing I don't have a multi-watch sales thread hanging out there - I'd be freaking out. But keep checking back - the watch I posted could be just the ticket.

You crashed the photobucket server by uploading such a sweet piece of watch. BTW, "outside the box" may be an understatement lol.
