Well, apparently my luck with a 01 that actually works has run out - the TransOcean 01 is heading back to BUSA.

I've had the watch for about 5 weeks now. Over those 5 weeks, I've noticed that the watch on 3 occassions has stopped while on my wrist. It seemed that on all three occassions, the chrono function was running. But, with the 70 hour power reserve I don't wind it as much. And for the last several weeks, I've been glued to my desk at work. So, I figured that maybe the watch had just wound down on those occassions.

Well, today it failed for certain. I haven't worn it in several days, so it got a full 40 turns at 8am this morning. I actually gave it 50 turns, because the damn crown is so tight that I thought maybe it wasn't previously getting a full 40. I also turned on the chrono.

At 2pm, looked down at the watch had stopped at 1:40pm, and the chrono seconds wasn't running. By the time I walked back to my office, everything was running again. I reset the time, and now an hour later, it's still running.

So it seems that the trend with the Calibre 01 continues. And now I'm paranoid about sending it in for service with some of the horror stories on here about watches coming back with scratches and dings.

I'm truly gutted, because I really love this watch. My Colt had to go back to BUSA twice after having it for only 8 months. I haven't had any problems since, but I always look at that watch differently now, always worried that something else is going to go wrong. I'm sick to my stomach now thinking that is how I will feel about the TO.

In any event, I'm sure I will update this in 6-8 weeks when the watch comes back.

Nobody likes to send their watch back; however, I can tell you from personal experience with BUSA, make sure you take pics of the watch and have the dealer sign and date a document that outlines any existing scratches, dings, etc.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear that, hopefully they return it quickly and in perfect working order. This is becoming a frequent trend with the B01 and it isn't reassuring me that the B01 is reliable. Hopefully it won't take too long to get back to you.

I too agree with drtymrtini.

Also have the AD tell BUSA to check ALL functions before sending the watch back to you.

I just got my Mark VI back from BUSA. The issue I sent the watch in for was fixed but the date wasn't changing over completely and the chrono second hand wasn't sweeping smoothly. Both of these issues were working properly when the watch was sent in the first time.

You should consider sending it to JD Watchworks in San Francisco. Julian is great and the service is a lot more personal.

:yeahthat I always had great results with BUSA until recently when my SA Blacksteel came back with a nick in the case. Long story, but they did end up replacing it with the LAST Blacksteel case in stock. Definitely have any wear or marks annoted prior to sending it out just to be safe. Good luck.

This is all good advice, but I have to ask: what if you receive the watch with a new scratch that wasn't there when you handed it to your AD for shipment to BUSA, assuming you documented the condition to begin with? What do you do? Do you have any recourse for anything less than a significant scratch or ding?

I recently sent a new watch back to BUSA due to multiple scratches in the bezel present on arrival. It appeared-and I have no way of proving this-that BUSA may have repackaged some returned dealer stock and passed if off as a new timepiece.

You don't take the watch back until it is in the same condition as it was when you handed it to your AD.

Here's my abbreviated story of what happened when I brought my BlackBird to my AD when it stopped working.

My watch was 4 months old and outside of the minor scuffs on the bracelet buckle, there was no damage, scuffs, scratches, etc. anywhere on the watch.

I got the watch back the first time 10 weeks after I dropped it off to the AD who told me BUSA said the mainspring came loose and it was fixed....but I noticed that there was a noticeable dent in the case. The AD conceded it should have been noted if I dropped it off that way and it went back to BUSA.

6 more weeks go by and I go to pick up the watch from my AD. They wouldn't give me the repair sheet as it was "under warranty." I contacted BUSA who sent the repair sheet to me. Not only did they replace the case, but they replaced two crowns, the crystal, and the chimney due to "damage."

Whether the AD damaged it or BUSA did, I'll never know...but I've read too many stories on these boards about people who have problems sending back their watch to BUSA for warranty work or repairs and IMO, cover your bases, take pics, and have your dealer sign a letter stating what damage, if any, is visible.

Can't say I've had a negative experience with BUSA, but I must say the number of reported problems with the 01 caliber hear and on other forums is troubling. I know that they have to work out the gremlins, but sheesh.
