Morning all!

I've had a nice little windfall from some shares and thought I'd treat myself to a new watch. With the budget I have I will be looking for an emergency on the used Market. Its always been somewhat of a Grail to me, it's what drew my eye to the brand in the mid nineties when it was launched. I then had a painful 15 year wait until I bought my first, and this will be number three, I guess there are some benefits to getting older
Anyway, is there anything I should be wary of when buying one if these second hand? I'm guessing service proof is a MUST, is there any visual difference between the quartz and SQ versions that I should be aware of? I'd ideally like to buy off a member here or an AD if they have pre-owned, I don't know if I'm hugely comfortable using chrono24 or eBay but I'll happily listen to arguments for either. I'm based in the UK if that's helpful for any answers.

I bought my Emergency via Ebay, but I insisted I had to pick up in person, even 'tho it was a 250 mile round trip.

I wanted to check the transmitter was working, that the nylon gasket was intact and that all the paperwork matched up.

I figured 2 things, if the seller could not agree to this then there might well be an issue, also I was able to leave with the watch in my grubby little hands, and not worry about the postal journey it would otherwise have taken.

Also the seller and I were able to circumnavigate PayPal and it's hideous charges.

All worked out splendidly.

There are four model numbers for civillian Emergencies:

56121 which is the original non COSC quartz
56121.1 which is virtually identical to 56121 with just some dial changes
56321 which is COSC certified quartz
76321 which is COSC certified SQ

In terms of other things, most are the same as any other piece, buy the seller first, make sure that paperwork matches, etc. This won't be your first Emergency so I'm sure you know about the need to register with Breitling, and if the seller claims that the watch has never been serviced then try and check that with Breitling (as the first service is free). I think that BUK are pretty good at confirming if a watch was serviced if you provide them with the serial number.

Perhaps I wasn't 100% clear in my first post Roff. When i say this is my third, I meant Breitling in general, not emergencies. I've never owned one of these.

If you keep your eyes peeled, you may see reduced Emergencies in ADs. My AD had them down to around £3k from 5.

Did I read somewhere that the authorities will no longer search for the these frequencies when conducting their searches ??

You may have, but it's not true.

Satellite monitoring of the frequency has been discontinued, but that's irrelevant for the Emergency as the signal isn't strong enough for satellite tracking anyway. Air / sea / land monitoring continues.

They even have some of the very rare Orbiter3 examples.

I see, cheers for the info, cant for the life of me remember where I read about this.

Anyway, lovely looking watches, would love to be able to own one in the future.
