Hi guys

I'm in discussion with my AD about the PAM 312 and he is telling me that although the MSRP is $7700 they usually sell it for around $9000. He is offering it to me for 7200 as we have bought a few watches from him in the past and saying it is the absolute best he can do.

Just wondering is what he is saying true in that AD that sell panerai generally sell it at prices higher than the RRP?

I'm puzzled because all the breitlings I've bought in the past were sold at 25-35% below the MSRP.

Any help would be appreciated!

I doubt the 312 sells for much higher than than list price any more. Even the ADs down in this corner of the world seem to get a small but steady stream, there is some wait involved but not more than a month or so.

Having said that, I think they still generally command full list price. If he's offering you any discount it's probably a good deal. I'm assuming you're talking US dollars by the way.

I paid full price for my 312 (only watch I've ever done that) but with exchange rates on the Australian dollar at the time it wasn't a bad deal.

The 312 isn't going to demand that much of a price premium so your AD is just trying to convince you that he's giving you a great deal. The forums are flooded with preowned 312s now so I'd save even more and buy one of them.

My response to that comment would be "Really, does Panerai know that you are in breach of contract with them by selling watches for higher than list?"

The vast majority of manufacturers, including Panerai, specifically have clauses in dealer contracts that prevent ADs for selling higher than list on new watches.

But it's hard in Australia as there aren't many people that stock PAMs. Second hand 312s seem to be selling from 6.5-8k in Australia according to the armadale watch gallery which is why I'm pondering about this.

Btw, my prices are in AUD.

Also, second hand 312s on the forum here seem to be going for around the 5.5-6k USD mark.

This is why I'm still considering paying the 7200AUD.

Be great if an Australian member knew an AD in Australia they could recommend me.

Hmmmm.... *thinking pose*

Tell him that he is lying to you, and that you will contact Panerai SA to inform them of his actions.

You can get a PAM 312, brand new from an AD for 6800-7000 easy, less if you are a very good customer. buy a BNIB one from the forums if I where you.

One more vote for the AD is trying to work you. There is only one Panerai dealer in the state I live in and while you can expect less of a discount than typical with Breitling, 10%+ discounting is available. The 312 is a popular model, but it isn't rare.

What a crock. Go back and shrink that AD's already pointy little head - you do that right? :)

I cant attest to what youll have to deal with if you were to order overseas, but if your AD is giving you something like 10% off of list price locally, thats a pretty good deal.
Of course this assumes that your dealer isnt lying to you about the list price, like he is about them selling for well over list.

Hey Guys

Thanks for all the advice. I feel so torn.

Just want to clarify once again I'm in Australia and the prices are AUD unless otherwise stated. So I'm assuming a brand new one from an AD is around 6800-7000USD according to one of the previous posts would that not mean that 7700AUD RRP is about right?

Maybe I'm just trying to convince myself to buy the watch. I've had a look on the forums here but don't see many PAM 312s for sale :(

Didn't realise you were in Australia. Which state?

Discounts at Panerai ADs are rare on popular models here. 7200 is decent - i paid more for mine.

By the way, I can confirm that 7700 is the correct list price here.

Thanks for the advice but how did you manage to find out the RRP of the watch? My friend went to a couple of other watch stores and they were quoting the watch at around 10k. That seems a bit ridiculous to me!
