Well appearantly most Panerai owners have smaller than "normal" wrists. My wrist is 7 1/2" and the factory Croc strap on the PAM 312 just barely catches on the last hole, with not much being tucked in the loop.

So, having ordered a hornback from TedSu 180/30mm, I emailed them to stop the shipment if they havent sent it yet, because I dont think that even that size is really enough. I would like the buckle to hit the middle of the underside of my wrist (shouldnt I?)

What would be the recomended size for my 7 1/2" wrist on my new PAM 312.

The standard PAM strap is 115/75. This is too small for me(~8.25" wrist). The factory XL strap is 115/95. Also a bit short.

You also need to take into account the thickness. Many PAM straps are pretty thick, in the 3.5-4.5 range and this means you need them longer. 180/30 seems very unbalanced to me. You probably want something int the 130/80 range.

Typo. I meant to say that I ordered a 130/80, which is the largest ready made strap they had listed.

I freaked out when I read 180

My wrist is almost 8 inches, and I order mine in 145/85. I would say 140/80 is perfect for you.

By the way try Vintager straps, Micah is awesome!

The TedSu strap that is on its way, is 135/80 and Jessie thought that this size would be good for my wrist. We will see. I also just ordered a Toshi strap at 130/80 so I will compare that one as well (but Richard said it would be a couple weeks before he would get it made).

The more time I spend looking at straps, the more straps I want. But I need to hold back the urges until I am 100% sure on the size. I also find myself looking more and more on eBay for things like leather glue, waxed string, awls, leather needles, punches and such!

The strap thing is a wierd new twist to my watch obsession. I find myself looking at the causual leather belt that I wear most days, thinking... hmmm this thick and super suple leather would make a great watch strap! I also was regifted a pair of custom alligator cowboy boots a few years back. I never wear them (not my style) and now I keep wondering about how many straps I could make out of the boots!

Anyway, this is a cool thing. I love the idea of the aftermarket strap being the norm and not frowned upon. This opens up a million different ways to change up the looks.

Strap size is very forgiving, and very subjective. Also, your taste will change. For instance, now I like long tails for my ammo straps -- which means I like the tip of my long strap to almost reach the far lugs, and to see a bit of buckle when I look at the face of my Pam straigt on -- and so I wear 150/90 even though my wrist is only 6-3/4". Dressy straps like crocs, JV etc will be much shorter.

You'll have lots more frustation out of the hole positioning (they're always either 3 or 4mm too tight or too loose ) than of the actual lengths. I can't stand to see additional hole punched on a strap that's not equidistant to the other holes (not to mention, it will destroy the resale values of your expensive straps). That's why I prefer straps withOUT sewn-in buckles, because changing to another type of screw-in buckles can help the fit of a strap.

Lastly, once you're comfortable with what you like, buy only quality "branded" straps, which can easily be sold or traded away. Cheapo straps will only end up cluttering your strap collections (cause you'll never wear 'em, but can't bear throwing away a perfectly good $60 strap either).
