In the last six months I have acquired five watches that I now consider my everday rotation watches (see signature below). The Baume Mercier is really a dressy, black leather strap, manual wind watch that I do not wear that often so that leaves the four diving watches. Can you tell I like diving watches?!

Anyway lately I have been wearing the Breitlings exclusively since they are newer, with the Oris and Omega getting minimal wrist time. That being said I am sure over time I will wear all four depending on how I feel. All four are automatics and I have a triple watch winder so none of them should wind down. I also have Ocean Racer straps for the two Breitlings and Oris and steel for all four.

Do you guys feel with too many watches this limits the enjoyment of some of them? Do you guys have weekday/weekend watches? Do you try to match what color outfit & watch? Do you try not to wear the same watch two days in a row? Bottom line is how do you manage to get your collection ample wrist time?

I am just curious how others manage this. Funny thing is I am headed to Las Vegas at the end of the month for five days and I plan on bringing the two Breitlings and the Omega!!! Crazy right?

Yes I now feel that having too many watches takes away some my enjoyment. I am reducing down to my favorite 6 watches and that's it. Anything more and than that is too much for my liking.

I have two dress watches, two weekend sport watches, and two all purpose watches....which are watches that can easily be worn with a suit or dressed down with a polo shirt. That's enough for me to be able to enjoy them all and wear them equally.

You will get lots of differing opinions on this topic.

I have no personal experience with this but my educated guess would be abso-freaking-lutely!!!

Currently I have a nice set - 11 - and even there it approaches unmanagability for me. The key is to have bracelet and strap options. 5 watches become 10 or 15 variations. That part is fun. Again I'm just guessing here, but I'm thinking 20-30 watches would be overwhelming for me. Some people are just fine with it, but I doubt I could. Hypothetically speaking of course.

I don't think that I have an absolute number, and for me the idea of losing a connection with a watch doesn't apply. I have never sold a watch that I didn't buy specifically to sell, so I am very careful before I commit that the watch is right for me. They aren't always immediately to hand to grab in the morning, but the enjoyment of one piece isn't affected by the fact that I have others.

I have watches that I tend to wear more on a Friday / over the weekend, and othersthat see more wrist time in more formal settings, that's obviously part of the reason for having different designs. I rarely wear the same watch two days running, and while I don't religiously match clothes to dials I am more likely to grab a blue or black dial with a blue suit than I am a bronze dial.

I mostly agree with Serge on this one. I am not sure that 6 is the number for me, but I can't see my number ever going above 8 (at least anytime soon). I just feels like a waste of money to me if I am not wearing each watch at least once every 2 weeks.

i only have 3 watches and to be honest i do not wear a watch everyday so i guess i dont really rotate or handle them like most people might. a while back a member on here Helderberg made a thread about "stick a fork in me im done" or something like that and for the most part i can relate to his thread, the premise being that there is nothing out there right now that i have to have. IMO the collection is something that one feels the urge of having to add to so there is no real set number as to what is normal or not. so i guess having too many watches is dependant on the owner who owns them, finances pending of course

3 is my magic number. Since the milgauss has departed though, I still need to pick something up to replace it. I like to have 3 completely different watches so each can be worn in different settings. A good casual watch, something sporty, and one that can be worn in more formal gatherings is enough for me.

i tend to chose my watches by situation and clothes, i can wear any of them daily, i dress up and am in a jewelry store, so they are all appropriate really. i try not to have too many watches that would duplicate scenarios, i dont need 2 big black chronos on leather, so i got rid of one, i dont need 2 dive watches on bracelelts, so just one.

thats how i do it anyway

I will be sticking to Texas Hold 'em...blackjack normally is a killer for me! To show how crazy its become...last year on my Vegas trip (before my watch obsession) I brought only a small New Balance digital jogging watch. Now two Breitlings, an Omega AND the running watch!

I actually know my hotel has nice safes!!!!!

I will have to comment only in theory, because at the moment I only have a two set, but I have certainly put in plenty of thought on what direction the next year or two will head.



I think serg hit it right on the head for what I think is best for me. A couple casual, a couple dressier, a beater, and a strictly dress watch and I would be set for life.

If you exclude the beater and dress watch and use them for their intended purposes only, you really have a main rotation of 3-4 which is pretty easy to love each in a given week.

Except for the jewelry store part.

I base it on what I'm wearing and what the weather will be. But I do try to stick to a Mon-Fri "rule" of no more than 2 days in a row with the same watch.

My watch case holds 5, so I have room for one more. I think 5 will be a nice manageable number, allowing pieces to get plenty of wrist time. I thought the 5th piece was going to be a Zenith (Tom's 36000vph, to be precise), but my "lust" for that watch quickly faded. I think a diver would be a better addition, and would round it out nicely. Or could I become a PAM convert.......?

Good call on the Zenith. Not because it isnt a great watch, but I think with your current collection a diver would fit quite nicely.

I rotate based on my mood. I currently have six but I think I will reduce further.

All of mine have black dials.
