Hi. Can anyone advise if this is gunuine or not? A chap is selling it here in South Africa & it's the 1st Breitling I've seen with a 'plane on the case back as opposed to the normal wings. Thanks.

I'm not expert enough to say definitively whether it's real or not, although it looks real to my semi-educated eyes. As for the caseback, Breitling will use a different caseback sometimes for special occasions. This one looks to be commemorating Breitling's 110-year anniversary, which seems a good enough reason to put a special caseback on it. But I'll defer to those who know.

That looks like two different watches to me.

The caseback is for a perfectly correct LE of 1,994 pieces to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the modern chronomat. However, the dial is not the LE piece.

Oops, you're right. It does say 1984 - 1994. I thought it said 1884 - 1994.

That I never would have known. Good thing we have experts here who do.

LE is tought to recognise these days because a lot of the design cues became part of the regular watch - most obvious is the applied wings logo on the LE.

Thanks for your input and help. The only one I've since been able to find with the same caseback is here;

http://www.wanttobuyawatch.com/Breitling.htm

which looks quite different.

I thought (though could be wrong) all 13050 dials had an applied logo and curved date aperture whereas the 13048 did not have an applied logo and had a square date aperture. This has a curved date aperture but no applied logo. Maybe a transition dial.

Not saying this is fake. More likely a re-dial (or Franken as electrosound says), but certainly strange. I wouldn't buy without full paperwork including re-dial work.

based on your comments I asked the seller a question about the 2 in 1 and I see the watch has vanished from the website. His ratings are very high so perhaps he was unaware??? Incidentally, we don't have eBay here in SA, but we have something almost identical. The same seller is offrering a B13048...

and

but this doesn't one come with papers either.

Instead of giving up I've been having a look at this B13356 from a different seller.

Could you be so kind to advise if either of these appear to be the real thing? Thanks again.
