Last night I drove over to a buddies house to play some poker. His wife looks at my wrist and goes 'hey what kind of watch is that?' I say Breitling. Without hesitation she goes, 'oh I saw one of those at Costco, it was tagged at $18k'

my costco never has anything as good as a breitling, on occasion a tag, tommy bahama watches, i think i saw a movado, but thats it.

the cartier is the bigger surprise, you want to talk about a controlling brand, the make panerai look like a joke when it comes to their retailers.

I think you could pick up a Panerai Ferrari model at Toys R Us if they wanted to carry them...I don't know anyone who likes the Ferrari PAMs and they are in abundant supply.

thats a pretty bold statement. and yes there are/is another member on here that does have a Ferrari Pam so there is at least one person that likes them :poke: .

i am more curious to know how warranty works with these pieces. is it safe to say that these watches from costco dont come with the full AD papers?? and if they do come with the AD stamped papers wouldnt the OEM pull the brand from the retailer who sold them to Costco? whats even more interesting (to me) is Costco has always been a volume seller....so in order for them to be interested in selling any item on there floor they must be buying quite a few pieces for it to be worth their while. Aftell all Costco is a multi billion dollar company so why would they purchase 100 watches just to make 500-1000 dollars a piece??

They're just another grey market seller - no Breitling warranty.

What is the need for a Breitling warranty when you can bring the watch back to Costco for ANY issue, and receive a full refund?

i understand that you can get a full refund anytime from costco. for me its just more about having all pieces with the box and watch. more of a collection thing really.

Personally I would like the option of having my watch repaired rather than automatically replaced, but that's just me.

I have a feeling that they dont make much on the watches, and that they are there for the sake of Costco being a one stop shop. Not a loss leader per se, but a way to get the customer to give them a look no matter what it is that they plan on purchasing. Customer wants to buy a nice watch, wife says to check out Costco because she saw some there and they have everything for less than the other guys. Its probably just a way to solidify their customer base.

Most items at costco work on a very small margin 14% across the board, I'm sure the watches and fine jewelry have a higher mark up! Costco makes most of their profit through the membership and that's up front cash money, so it doesn't really matter what you buy there you've already gave them there cash flow for the year! I read a story about just what the membership funds bring in a year, it's a crazy amount of money! After that they can sell all they want at low margins and still make a fortune!!
