Hi all,

The ling bug has hit hard - now that I have one I need more

What do you think of this - with my limited knowledge of what to look for I'm kind of stuck on whether this is real or not. http://cgi.ebay.com/BREITLING-MONTBRILL ... dZViewItem

Thanks,

Andy

Looks real to me.. but contrary to what the Seller says, the crystal on the Spatiographes is Mineral, not Sapphire, so it scratches much more easily... something that's not good on a watch with no bezel to protect it like the Navitimers. I personally love the roman numerals on the Spatiograph but because of the mineral crystal I would instead look for a Twinsixty II with the italicized Arabics which have a similar style to them.

Thanks BS, looking for my 2nd watch I definitely want to be able to wear it so the mineral crystal is a deal breaker - maybe when I'm looking for my 6th or 7th it won't matter so much!

I do like the look of Roman numerals - I'm just not sure of the Arabic numbers - one reason I opted for the cockpit for my first Ling. I'd lean more towards the TwinSixty rather than the II for that reason, but both good looking watches.

Wow this is an old thread!

Well I had some experience of fragile crystals with the acrylics on vintage pieces, and that was what was putting me off on another everyday Breitling. The Breitling collection of modern pieces has expanded somewhat since then and Breitling has also started replacing mineral with sapphire on some pieces (the highly domed ones are still not generally done.

Nowadays it's less of an issue - I'm past my 'Breitling every day' phase and a mineral cryatal is more acceptable as a practical watch because they aren't getting as much wear.

I thought your views might have changed a bit! :D

I've been bored today so I've been looking through a lot of the old threads and stumbled accross this from 2007!! Just as well these old threads aren't deleted, some good stuff there.

Cheers
