The First time I used an E6B a.k.a. circular slide rule, was during initial Ground school and flight training while I was in college and later during teaching and testing as a Flight Instructor and Airline transport Pilot Testing over 23 years ago...later on in my aviation career I used it on a flying single pilot on AC690 turbo commanders. I had circular slide rule on a Citizen Quartz which was all cool until I noticed the lens was conducive to scratches in the cockpit and the battery finally died I just gave up on circular slide rules as calculators were abundant and cheap.... otherwise simple calculations and rule of thumb math is more than you need. Of course Flight Management Systems work great for Vertical Navigation.
Eventually I started using simple Vertical Navigation Computers installed in Corporate Jets and eventually the Primus 1000 avionics and to date the Honeywell FMS 6000 on a proline 4 avionics. Truth to the matter everything I need is a keystroke away is staring me In the CRT panel displays.
But its nice to look back at my career and know that I can easily use a Circular Slide Rule (of course with my reading glasses on when it comes to my Airwolf), or use my Airwolf as a compass in the daylight.
So my Airwolf brings back the fond memories I have of Pilot training Navigation, Flight planning… and it looks really cool while its on my wrist.
But on a previous post I read some pilots buy replica Watches… Not smart for commercial pilots to operate aircraft on international flights while wearing those replica watches for example entering France. it is posted in Big read letters on white Bulletins after you have entered customs wearing counterfeit watches jewelry is a crime… That would put a serious crimp on a professional pilot’s ability to earn an income at least as an International pilot. By the way I carry a scanned Laminated color copy of my receipts in my roller bag for my watches, blackberry, phone, computer that I travel with should I be questioned by the customs agents. I would rather be questioned and have evidence for the countries customs than be arrested and convicted for transporting Counterfeit goods.
With efforts by the Washington DC to get China to respect proprietary rights to patents, it just a matter of time before we hear about the end users of counterfeit watches prosecuted.

Ripper my jets have all set there internal clocks automatically referanced on the GPS. We sync our positioning laser driven IRS while we are still on the stand and compare to the lat / long posted on the stand number placard or against the 10-9 referance in the abscence of a Lat / Long placard.. The time referance is not even controlled by us. We tend to hack our watches to the GPS clock displayed on our MFDs as that referance is +/- sec. ahead Atomic clock referance.

Most pilots around my part of the world wear aerospaces, I seen nearly every type over the years. This morning waiting to passenger on a positioning flight saw a passenger wearing a Bentley GMT(black face, rubber strap). Identified it first by the large assymetric lugs. Very unassuming watch in the field with the rubber on it. And yes most pilots are cheap, just because early in our careers our pay is very minimal & training costs are ridiculously high. However 95% of the lings I see are real because there's no decent replica pro watches out there.
cheers

Glass cockpit..unfortunately the Vnav does not work that great on the Emb 190, the plane will over speed and go in the barber pole before it figures out it cannot achieve the descent rate.
It has to be a Software problem ..but nobody seem to care to fix it.
even in flight level change mode it is all over the place..this is why I always work my descent..mentally.
We even have to work out the descent angle based on TAS and winds because the FMS won't do it.
Not like the 320 or other airplane..i guess you get what you pay for.

Out of the 11 or 12 'lings I've owned, the most useful was certainly the B-1 for my flying (gen av and corporate)...I had to sell mine last summer, but am now looking to put another one (or Hercules) on my wrist because of it's superior usefulness in the cockpit.

lefrancais. So how do you fly RNAV arrivals / approaches the 190 is more advanced than my 5 year old Bombardier proline 4 on a FMS 6000... heck you even have a mouse! I wish I had a mouse! You've got auto throttles..... I use to have Auto throttles on a previous Bombardier I flew with a different company I miss the Auto Throttles ...

oh it would fly an Ar.Nav fine but for the initial descend we have to input a descent angle..to try to achieve an Idle descent..
the company is really big on saving gas.
So really to 1st point and altitude is the one to worry about after that..an Ar.Nav is usually thought out so..we don't have to hand bomb it..like we stole it!!!

Flying the A320 and A330, absolutely no use at all for my Cosmonaute, I sometimes start the chronograph at break release, but such a pleasure to wear anyways, and the pax expect a big pilot watch when I step out of the cockpit to grab something to eat and do my "pax run", I get envious looks and questions. And the FA's can never figure what time it is. So this watch is full of win !

I perform flight tests on aircraft prototypes. I own a Skyracer but I do not really need such a watch onboard. However, I enjoy wearing it during those flights !

My buddy had the same complaint. He just upgraded to the 320, and is very pleased so far. I'm guessing you are both Blue.

As a mere private pilot I use my EM to log flight time :)

I'm not a pilot, but I do tell them what to do all day (ATC)

All kidding aside, I see gaggles of military aviators throughout my work week, and I have only seen one with a genuine Breitling - an Aerospace. 99% of flying Officers I see wear Timex Ironman watches.

i don't really need all the gadgets..but want i wear it i will use it.
I also have simple plain watches which do the job. i hardly wear my ling to work..to much banging around on the flight deck.
we also have a clock in the cockpit..so no need for a watch really.

I don't work for Jet blue . i am north of the border!!
