The model that was just replaced by the current SOII, with the shadow numerals and arrow hour hand, what years was it produced during? and why was it so quickly discontinued?

Thanks,
Andrew

Produced (released) in 2009 only. Don't know why discontinued, only speculate they were trying new dials/designs.

Thank you. Did these come with a 2 or 1 year warranty period?

Breitling seems to be making it clear that a new iteration of a watch means the existing model will disappear (Skyracer - Skyracer Raven; Superocean - Superocean II). Models are falling like bowling pins.

I just ordered a blue dial 2009 Superocean, to get a 42mm Ling dive watch to replace the larger Steelfish I had to glumly accept were too large for me. The Su[pereoceans are yet available, but the blue was a bugger to acquire(I don't have a single blue dial. What happened??). I consulted all 3 local ADs and more than one out of state and only one could find it for me.

I really wanted a more traditional case-style Breitling diver while they still exist. At a minumum for the 42mm models, they won't be around long.

The current case started in 2003, I think. It had "shadowed" arabics. Also the numbers on the rider tabs and bezel minute ticks were black enamel filled. The 2009 kept the same arabics for 12, 6, and 9, but made them larger. The remaining arabics are outlines. The arabics since at least 2003 are fully lumed. The 2009 changes also included a more current bezel look by removing the enameled ticks and numbers.

You can still get them, especially in black dial. Good luck finding a blue dial. Or any new ones at all one year from now.

The black dial 2009 model was almost my first Breitling. I held off and then ended up with the Steelfish which I also decided was a little large for me. When I found my coral SO (2006 model) the AD also had a 2009 yellow dial SO (Shark, any yellow dials?). I actually kinda like the 2009 dial, not as busy looking, less 'tick' marks on it and the broad arrow hour hand is a nice touch. I believe the blue is a brighter hue but I don't think I've actually seen one first hand, your dial should look nice! I just haven't warmed up to the SO II yet, but I may give it some more interest down the road.

That 42mm size works good for me.

I prefer it to the pre-2009 SOs. Just odd they would change it up for one year and scrap the entire model for a decidedly dissimilar SOII. Look for more of the same.

Maybe someday in the very distant future, Breitling will make a sub-42mm, flat black dial, all brushed finish, in-house movement dive watch with a tool-less microadjuster and great lume. Oh wait, the lume would be fuchsia and the bezel would be made of licorice or Play Doh.

My rant is now over and this topic can return to its originally scheduled program.
