Those interested, what is cooking this year?

We are doing the usual - BBQ (ribs, pork, brisket, chicken), hot wing dip, veggies/fruit, chili, chips & salsa, guacamole, cheese dip. On the unusual side, we have a friend that brings chicken McNuggets (bc he is lazy, and they are great - once a year).

We have done a Bacon Explosion a couple of time (http://www.bbqaddicts.com/blog/recipes/bacon-explosion/) - and generally we think they suck.

Anyone out there cooking anything interesting this year for the Superbowl?

I always find peel-and-eat em shrimp a huge crowd pleaser! Buy jumbo shrimp boil them for about two minutes with some old bay seasoning. Once done, dump a whole bunch more of the Old Bay Seasoning all over it and serve with cocktail sauce. It's always a hit!

Mini hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls, aka pigs in a blanket. Buffalo shrimp, spinach artichoke dip, jalapeño poppers, crab stuffed mushrooms, and chili. All homeade here, no frozen shit allowed!!!

Beer will not be a problem - 2 people attending are beer reps (Coors, Boulevard - local KC). We are all about 28, me the only one married for more than a couple years (a few recent marriages), and me the only one with a child (9 months old tomorrow) so I really look forward to the SB. We usually get things started around 9 am (I help smoke the meat) so beer rep friends are of the highest regard.

The only food we will eating that is not home-cooked will be the McNuggets. I usually eat 1 to tide me over until next year.

My wife noted that our meal didn't include a single piece of fruit, so she is making some fruit something or other, which I am sure I will enjoy. I think I am going to do a large pot of assorted brats and sausages, beer, and sour kraut - Let cook for a few hours and enjoy. Its cheap, easy, and feeds a crowd easily.

I'm with you sharkman. I keep it simple so no one wants to show up, and I don't have worry about getting a good seat to see the game in my own damn house.

The gentleman from Arizona seems to have some seriously keen insight into my breakfast this morning.

Kuslamb, how many grills do you have going? Personally, I prefer my brats grilled vs. boiled, even in beer. Braised w/ beer over open fire, 'kraut added later after a boil in beer.

I have some new Argentine friends who plan on bringing grilled beef (2, one rare and one medium) on a spit, sliced to order w/ what appears to be some very sharp swords (what do I know....).

I have another friend who is a CIA grad and he has promised some surprises, seafood-wise.

It would appear that I need to take your lead and find some beer friends.

We have a large grill and a smoker (trailer mounted). The thing is that its going to be about 20 degrees out, so I have no interest in grilling all day. Helping keep the smoker running is fine, but tending to the grill for an hour or so is not my job this time (it usually is though). I agree on the grilled v. boiled brats by the way.

RE you CIA friend and seafood - that sounds great. RE your Argentine friends and their beef, this can lead to nothing bad. I have always enjoyed the grilled cuisine of Argentina and Brazil (both in that country, and the USA interpretations).
