I am in Canada, have been looking on Ebay for a Breitling. However, due to the high duties for importing I was thinking of going to the local AD to purchase one. I am in the sales industry and don't like to waste a salespersons time. So in order to save some time I have two questions:

What kind of discount should I expect in %?

How much should I try and negotiate for?

For anyone else in Canada, I will be going to LaSwiss in Vancouver on Wednesday and hopefully walking out with a Chronomat Evolution. If you anyone in Canada has experience or has a hookup it would be awesome.

I dont know how it is in canada, but in the US, 10-15% is considered good, and about 20% being very good. Anything more than that is harder to get (but still possible) and considered great.

BTW, keep in mind that it varies GREATLY from dealer to dealer. Some wont hesitate to give you 20+ off, while others may refuse to give you anything.

I got 25% off on my Omega Speedmaster Professional at an Omega AD last year. I was hoping to get the same. If so it wouldn't be worth the hassle of importing one from the USA.

My other option is to buy a pre-owned one.

The best discount I have ever got from a UK AD was 30% on my Motors, although I should point out that it was under pretty exceptional circumstances and I've been buying watches from these guys for over 10 years. Normally it's a struggle to get anything more than 5% to 10% from UK AD's. They're MEAN!

The best thing to do is not to EXPECT a discount. I usually go in ready to pay full retail and then just negotiate the best price I can. If it's 15% then great ; if it's 5% that's still great as far I'm concerned (just not AS great! )

I have gotten as high as 35% and have never gotten less than 32% from an AD. However, you have to really work it. If you are more concerned about time savings rather than a great deal just pay the price. as stated before it greatly depends on the dealer, the relationship you have with them, time of year, availability etc.

I just bought my SO Steelfish at the La Swiss in Montreal. He gave me 25% off and save me the PST by sending the watch to me in Winnipeg. If you have no luck in Montreal, PM me and I'll give you the contact info of my salesman at the La Swiss in Montreal. If you know exactly what you want, you may have to wait a couple of days.

I would turn around and walk out of the door if I didn't get at least 20% off.

It all depends on how much business you have done with said AD, the overall style of business for that AD and so on. To just walk in and expect a discount from someone you have never met is a bit presumptuous to some. You havent done anything to warrant a discount in their minds. Others may view you as a potential future customer and decide to discount your first watch to ensure you come back to them for another. I personally wouldnt expect much of a discount if its your first time going there, being as they dont know you and dont know your tastes, price range, buying frequency amongst other things.

My rule is that watches are ultimately a luxury purchase, you actually need them. So I approach it by finding out full retail, waiting until I can afford what full retail is, and then purchasing it. If I get a discount, I am twice as happy, seeing how I got the product I wanted and paid less for it. If I dont get a discount, I am still happy, because I got the watch I wanted from an Authorized Dealer so I know its genuine.

I agree!!! In any case, my friend has bought numerous watches from LaSwiss which is a Breitling AD. I am pretty sure I will get a good deal. Would be nice to get 35% off a Breitling!!!

It depends how prepared the individual manager is to ignore the official La Swiss policy. Given what the store has to pay the distributor in Canada (who also own La Swiss), the only way that they are going to be able to go that high is if the sales rep gives up some of their commission, there is a Breitling financed promotion, or the specific item is being discounted by the store for some reason.

It's certainly inconsistent with La Swiss official policy as I indicated in my earlier pm.

I just had dinner with my friend tonight. He recently bought a Montbrillant Legende from them and got 3X% off. It looks like I will be buying one in Canada. Can't be bothered with importing one.

Chronomat Evolution

La Swiss
$5000-30%=$3500+12%=$3920!!!

Ebay
$3895+5%GST=$4089.75!!!

Definately gonna buy locally...plus get to try it on and inspect it before I buy.
