So my girl and I were flipping through the Breitling made to measure and here she picked out her favorite. She may be a bit biased by my SOH 46, but nonetheless it is a nice choice.

I was planning on getting her the Hamilton Ladies Seamaster I had mentioned in a previous post, but when I casually passed through the Hamilton website I didn't get the vibe she was that impressed.

I personally think that the Hami is a steal ($950 retail), with the display back and quick change, but I cannot imagine a female Hamilton will even be near the sturdiness and heft of a small Men's Breitling.

It would be cool to have a Ling on my lady's wrist, but that sure is a big price difference. Any thoughts?

On another note, when showing her the ladies galactic line....without prodding first thing she says was..."I don't like that part AT ALL *pointing to the Buck Rogers bezel. hahahah. Double points.

I wish my wife would let me get her a nice watch. She has a damn ESQ and won't let me get her anything nicer. I think the SOC, that's 38mm right, would look great on a woman. Bite the bullet and get it for her, if she likes it than she'll actually wear it, if she's not into watches I doubt that she'd give a crap about a DB.

The SOC is 42mm. You are thining of the Galactic (or a Cockpit) Chrono which is 38 or 39mm.

I meant the SOH, I thought that one was 38mm and one was 46mm. Never really looked at the smaller one because I don't have baby wrists :poke:

The Hamilton is, looks-and-style-wise completely different to the SOH. I'm not saying a lady couldn't like both, but if she really loves something as hefty and androgynous as the SOH, I doubt she'd really like something as dainty and feminine as the Hamilton you posted there as a primary watch. The quick change strap is definitely a cool feature, especially for someone with a very small watch collection, but I don't think someone who isn't into watches much is going to care about a DB.

Maybe look into getting her a "pre-loved" SOH? It might offset the sting of the price difference for you while still getting her the exact model she wanted, and if she happens to develop an interest in horology out of it, it can only end well for you!

Didn't Alien, an AD in Europe, mention something about the 38mm SOH being discontinued this year in favor of a larger 41-42mm model? I do like the look of that version though.

My wife has a black dial Movado and 2 Michele jelly watches (1 black and 1 white since I was told she couldn't wear a white watch in the winter). I'm planning on getting her a Cartier Tank Solo this year. She wants nothing to do with an automatic watch and she likes the Cartier brand.

Now that you mention it I do remember something about that because I thought it was one of the few recent ideas that I thought was a good one.

It was in the thread about the regular Navi being discontinued. If you do want to get the smaller SOH in that dial combination, you'll probably have to go through an AD since I've never seen one of those for sale.

She really likes the heft of my SOH, and as sort of a hipster (don't worry, she is just over the half +7 rule), the Hamilton may not really be for her.

As for pre-owned...I wouldnt expect too many of the 38 mm white dial faces to be on the second hand market. I doubt too many WIS are flipping their 38mm divers if you know what I mean. Plus the bracelet was what really had her enamored, so it looks like this would need to be an AD purchase before they discontinue the model.

I do question your logic on her developing an interest as in my best interest. As it is buying her this would mean "I" could then only get a single watch this year.

You should buy her a SOHC LE, there just happens to be one for sale in the sales forum....what a coincidence. :D

You didn't just really say that did you??? Were you at a Sammy Davis Jr. Homage this weekend? :poke:

BTW - it is quite cool she is interested in the SOH38 (though I personally think she would much prefer a diamond bezel COCKPIT)

HaHa.....the term hipster has come back to describe the cool kids who know more about music and artsy fartsy stuff than squares like me.

She does her best to keep me young and I do my best to take care of all grown folk responsibilities.

Yes, but if she develops an interest in watches now, ten years down the line when you're looking at Tourbillions, instead of swooning when she hears the price and asking why you don't have a bigger house, she'll be excited about your new purchase and help you debate the relative merits of different models. Short-term pain, long-term gain! :poke:
